The NYPD has released alarming statistics regarding African-Americans suspects and crime. The new statistics taken from the first six months of this year reveal that black people are the most likely group to be shot in New York City and also most likely to be arrested for shooting. African-Americans accounted for 70 percent of the 222 people arrested for shooting someone in the first half of 2013, while also comprising 74 percent of the city’s 567 shooting victims during that time period.
The same data showed that 21.5 percent of shooting victims were Hispanic and less than three percent were white. White people were also far less likely to be arrested for shootings than blacks or Hispanics, according to the NYPD statistics, with just 2.9 percent of the arrests coming from white shooters and 25.4 percent from Hispanics. Asian people ranked at the very bottom of both shooting arrests and victims.
