So... why is there a "Black history month" ? There isn't a "White history month" nor Hispanic, nor Asian, and besides, what Blacks contributed to this country would only take a day or two to tell....

African-American Memorials, Monuments And Historic Spots Around D.C.  Feb 06, 2012 By Rachel Tepper

WASHINGTON — Black History Month comes around each year in February, but this is the first since the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial, which sits on the Tidal Basin, was dedicated last October.
King’s legacy is a powerful one: The monument’s dedication drew about 50,000 people and the likes of President Obama, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder and Martin Luther King III, and continuing controversy over an out-of-context inscription led to plans for it to be changed.
With such fanfare surrounding the long-awaited memorial, it’s sometimes easy to forget that there are many other lesser-known historic places, monuments and memorials honoring the rich history, heritage and contributions of African Americans in the nation’s capital.
