Isn't everything nowadays "insensitive" ?

Oh, Great: Now 'Gone With The Wind' Is Insensitive

A showing of the classic film "Gone with the Wind" has been canceled for next year at the Orpheum Theatre in Memphis out of concern that the film is "insensitive" due to its depiction of slavery. The Orpheum Theatre has shown the film each year for the past three and a half decades, but that will come to an end in 2018.
Theatre owner Brett Batterson said that the film was inappropriate for the Memphis community.
From the Associated Press:
Officials at Memphis' Orpheum Theatre have announced that the film will not be shown during its summer movie series in 2018. Theater president Brett Batterson says in a statement that "the Orpheum cannot show a film that is insensitive to a large segment of its local population."
Batterson blamed a social media campaign for next year's cancellation.
I mean, good grief. Isn't everything problematic if a person tries hard enough? "Gone with the Wind" needs to be viewed in context of both the time it was made (1939) and the subject matter of the story. Also, there's something terribly ironic about a film featuring the first African-American to win an Academy Award (Hattie McDaniel, who played the role of Mammy and won Best Supporting Actress) being canceled due to...racial insensitivity.
"Gone with the Wind" is a classic film that has certainly seen its fair share of controversy. There's no denying this, but it's still a quality film. Society changes over time. Hardly anyone born before the 20th century would have sufficiently "woke" views by today's standards on every issue. That doesn't mean that they're not worth watching, reading, etc. It'd be better to actually watch the film and then discuss how things have changed in the past 80 years than to just shove it away and pretend it was never made.

Democratic Senator Throws Cold Water on Trump Impeachment Talk  Matt Vespa  Posted: Aug 28, 2017

Democratic Senator Throws Cold Water on Trump Impeachment Talk

Well, even in deep blue states, like Connecticut, its congressional representatives know the limits of this impeachment nonsense that’s being pervasively drummed up by the progressive Left.  Sen. Chris Murphy sat down with WFSB3’s Susan Raff, who asked the senator to comment on the recent accusations that Trump may be mentally unfit and possibly unstable. In other words, comment on the same anti-Trump crowd who still can’t stand the fact that he won the 2016 election.
Raff and Murphy acknowledged that these are loaded accusations, but the Connecticut senator said that there really isn’t much daylight between Trump as president and Trump the candidate, which is not an impeachable offense.

Democratic Senator We Can't Impeach Trump For Fulfilling Campaign Promises, He Won The Election

he said. Murphy added that his speeches during the 2016 campaign are just as “bizarre,” as they are while he’s occupying the Oval Office.
“He did win the Electoral College despite this bizarre behavior as a candidate. So, you can’t impeach somebody for doing what they said they were going to do as a candidate,” he added. “And whether we like it or not, he is fulfilling all of the very reckless promises or trying to fulfill some of the reckless promises he made during the campaign.”
Concerning the questions about stability, Murphy said that he doesn’t feel Trump is acting in a way that befits the office, and that he worries how he would respond if this nation were facing a real national security threat. For now, the president is busy trying to figure out how to deal with Hurricane Harvey that slammed Texas’ Gulf Coast.
Yet, there you have it. Even a hard-core liberal, like Murphy, knows that you cannot impeach someone for merely winning an election. His campaign promises, while he views them as “reckless,” are not impeachable offenses. He may not act like you want him to act as our Head of State, but all of liberal America felt that way about George W. Bush and we’re all still here. This all boils down to personality. You either love Trump or hate him. There’s no in-between. That’s fine, but again, hardly something worthy of wasting Congress’ time on impeachment proceedings. Also, Sen. Murphy, winning the Electoral College is winning the election, so even here there’s a tinge of the not accepting the 2016 results with the whole “Hillary Clinton won more popular votes,” which means nothing, by the way.

In Arpaio's defense, a White House statement cited his age and "life's work of protecting the public from the scourges of crime and illegal immigration."

Also in Arpaios defense, he is more PATRIOTIC and has more GUTS than any of theose "POLITICIANS" in Washington. (Including John McCain) who is a BACK STABBER, NOT A HERO!!
Arpaio Latest in Long Line of Controversial Presidential Pardons

FILE - Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is joined by Maricopa County, Ariz., Sheriff Joe Arpaio at a campaign event in Marshalltown, Iowa, Jan. 26, 2016.

Donald Trump on Friday issued the first clemency of his presidency, pardoning controversial former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
The 85-year-old Arpaio, an early Trump supporter, had been convicted of criminal contempt after defying a judge's order to stop racially profiling Latinos.
In Arpaio's defense, a White House statement cited his age and "life's work of protecting the public from the scourges of crime and illegal immigration."
Critics slammed the move, saying Trump acted to protect a political crony and didn't follow Department of Justice guidelines in issuing the pardon.
It is the latest in a long line of controversial clemencies granted by U.S. presidents.

Former President Barack Obama granted clemency to over 1,900 peoplemore than any other president in over 60 years. The vast majority of those were commutations — most for nonviolent drug offenders whose sentences Obama had deemed too harsh.
Before leaving office, Obama also issued commutations to former intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning, who was convicted of disclosing sensitive information to WikiLeaks.
Obama Released Even More Terrorists On His Way Out the Door  Rusty Weiss
Well, if you ignore the fact that all of the detainees were captured on the battlefield. Oh, and that pesky recidivism rate where a significant percentage of these terrorists return to the battlefield.
Legislators have suggested that rate lies at about 30%. Meaning, of the 201 terrorists released, around 60 have likely returned to the terrorism game, battling and even killing American military members.
“There should be no further releases from Gitmo,” Trump has previously stated. “These are extremely dangerous people and should not be allowed back onto the battlefield.”
How fitting that the man who allowed the spread of ISIS, who watched as attacks on American soil escalated in San Bernardino, Orlando, Boston, etc., would make America even less safe by releasing terrorists back to the Middle East.

A New Confederate Monument Goes Up in Alabama

Image: Confederate monument in Brantley, Alabama Confederate monuments are coming down across America in the wake of this month's violence in Charlottesville, Virginia — except in Alabama, where a new one went up on Sunday.
More than 500 people showed up for the unveiling of a small monument to "Unknown Alabama Confederate Soldiers" at Confederate Veterans Memorial Park, on private land in the town of Brantley, in Crenshaw County about 30 miles north of the Florida line.
Five cannons were fired as a red cloth was pulled off to unveil the monument, which is ringed by a black metal fence and is flanked by two other monuments, NBC station WVTM of Birmingham reported.
The Daughters of the Confederacy and the Sons of Confederate Veterans attended the ceremony, along with Civil War re-enactors dressed in period clothing.
David Coggins, the site's owner and developer, said he "had some concerns" about the timing of the unveiling, just 15 days after a woman was killed and 19 other people were injured when a car plowed into a group of counter-protesters at an alt-right and white nationalist rally in Charlottesville.
The Charlottesville rally was called to protest the removal of statues honoring Confederate generals Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson.
"There are people who are opposed to what we do," Coggins told NBC affiliate WSFA of Montgomery. But he said the timing was a coincidence and that "our intentions are good."
"This was planned several months ago," Coggins said. "Matter of fact, the monument was ordered last year, and it's taken this long to get it in the ground and ready to unveil."
It's a contention that Benard Simelton, president of the Alabama Conference of the NAACP, wasn't buying.
"If they had to unveil it, why would they unveil it on the heels of such a tragic event that happened in Charlottesville, Virginia?" Simelton asked, WSFA reported.
In a separate statement, Simelton said: "The historical meaning, intent and outright disrespect noted in these Confederate symbols and monuments re-ignite the negative history and memories associated with them."
But Coggins insisted that the monument had nothing to do with race.
"There's nothing racist about us," he told WSFA. "We're not white supremacists.
"As a matter of fact, we have members in our organization who are black," he said. "We have Hispanic members. We have Native American members. We have members from all over and all nationalities, and they shouldn't be concerned about any sign of offense here from us, because we honor all of those veterans.
"We're color-blind as far as that goes," said Coggins, who said he plans to add more monuments.
In recent weeks, statues and monuments memorializing the Confederacy have come down across the country, from Los Angeles to New York. Even in Alabama, Birmingham Mayor William Bell this month ordered a large wood wall erected to conceal a century-old Confederate monument this month in Linn Park.

Facepalm: Why This Former Clinton Campaign Staffer Found This Houston Rescue Very Problematic Matt Vespa Posted: Aug 28, 2017

Our friends at Twitchy have been monitoring social media, as they usually do, for the wild and the wacky from the Left. In the case of the major hurricane slamming Houston right now, not even life or death situations can prevent progressives from being triggered. Logan Anderson worked on Hillary Clinton’s failed 2016 campaign and she did not like that there was a Confederate flag on a boat that was helping black residents get to safer ground. However you may feel about the Stars and Bars, it’s totally irrelevant in these situations. Who cares? The water is rising. People could die. Who really cares about a Confederate flag on a boat? Now, she does say that in this situation, she would have jumped into the boat and then ripped off the flag. Then again, it looks like it’s attached to the rudder of the airboat, so maybe that’s not such a good idea.

Y'ALL, THE CONFEDERATE FLAG CROWD IS HELPING BLACK PEOPLE
Yes, historically, the Confederate flag is probably not one of the best things to come out of American history, though it’s also something that’s inextricably linked to Southern culture. Yes, even African-Americans have been seen waving the Confederate flag. In terms of sports, Laremy Tunsil of the Miami Dolphins was caught in smoking marijuana in a video, which cost him millions prior to the NFL draft in 2016. If you watch the video, there’s a rather interesting flag hanging on the wall behind him—and it’s not the American flag. Yeah, he might have been high, but he was hardly triggered by it.

Yet, back to the point, in a life or death situation, no one cares about this crap. There can certainly be debates about the Confederate flag–and I'm sure we'll have more of them in the future–but that's not really a high priority action item in Houston.

John Mccain Infuriated Conservatives With An Unthinkable Attack On DonaldTrump
John Mccain Infuriated Conservatives With An Unthinkable Attack On Donald Trump
John McCain has positioned himself as a bigger opponent of Donald Trump’s agenda than any Democrat.  He betrayed the President and GOP voters when he provided the decisive vote to
kill the effort to repeal Obamacare.
Now he’s blasting Trump for his latest decision and conservatives are furious.
Trump pardoned Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. The Obama administration brought criminal charges against Arpaio in 2016 after they sued him in 2012 for allegedly racially profiling Hispanics

Conservatives argued it was a political prosecution and cited the fact that the case was brought while Arpaio was running for re-election as evidence.Arpaio lost that race
– in part because of the trial – and was later convicted.

Trump had been telegraphing that he would pardon Arpaio – who strongly endorsed Trump during the campaign – for days.
When the pardon was handed down, the establishment was furious.
John McCain infuriated conservatives again when he blasted the President’s decision in a statement he released on his website.
It read:

“No one is above the law and the individuals entrusted with the privilege of being sworn law officers should always seek to be beyond reproach in their commitment to fairly enforcing the laws they swore to uphold. Mr. Arpaio was found guilty of criminal contempt for continuing to illegally profile Latinos living in Arizona based on their perceived immigration status in violation of a judge’s orders. The President has the authority to make this pardon, but doing so at this time undermines his claim for the
respect of rule of law as Mr. Arpaio has shown no remorse for his actions.”
This was a stunning act of betrayal.
Democrats were sure to denounce the Arpaio pardon because of his strong stand against illegal immigration.
But establishment Republicans raced to be the first ones to denounce Trump’s move.
In addition to McCain, fellow Arizona Senator Jeff Flake – whose opposition to Trump has badly damaged his chance of surviving a pro-Trump primary challenger – also criticized the decision.
Flake and McCain are two of the leading supporters of amnesty and open borders.
So it was not surprising that they disagreed with the Arpaio pardon.
But publically rebuking Trump for exercising his constitutional powers and joining a media pile-on struck conservative critics as unseemly.
Do you agree?

VIDEO: While Houston Is Under Water, People Start Looting

Looters In Houston Arrested by Houston PD

Houston, TX – The city of Houston is facing catastrophic flooding, which looters see as an opportunity. Video of looting has been uploaded to social media (video below.)
Houston PD Chief Art Acevedo has announced that Houston PD officers have arrested looters, but it’s not clear if the arrested looters are related to the people looting in the video.
The video, uploaded by Isabel Torres, shows people walking back and forth between vehicles and stores that have had the front doors broken in. Two young males could be seen walking away with TVs over their heads.
The exact location of the looting is not clear, but some of it is taking place in a Family Dollar store.

Houston area police has rescued an estimated 2,000 people so far from floodwaters, but a great many more still need help.
City officials are warning people not to flee to their attic, because they may become trapped and drown as the floodwaters rise. Instead people are being told to go to their roof and signal for help if they need rescue.
The 911 lines have been overwhelmed with people in need of help and people have taken to social media to beg people to save them. The mayor has told people to keep trying the 911 lines if you are in a life-threatening situation and cannot get through.
911 should remain the primary number to call for life-threatening emergencies.

Really? Change the Jefferson Memorial? Leave it just the way it is!    ByKelly

If you thought the good, national tidings emanating from America’s solar eclipse would begin to bridge the racial divide arising from the recent fracas in Charlottesville, you’d be sadly mistaken. Worse, the open wounds are being poked and prodded by the very people who are responsible for reminding the public what unites – not divides – us as Americans.

The Washington Examiner reports that the Jefferson Memorial will be “updated” to reflect the fact that the author of the Declaration of Independence and the third President of the United States was a slaveholder.  The announcement was made by Catherine Perkins from the Trust for the National Mall (“Trust”), the non-profit partner of the National Park Service to preserve and restore the National Mall and Memorial Parks.
According to Perkins, the Jefferson Memorial “update” will mark the first in a series of historical revisions to landmarks under the Trust’s stewardship.  Projects supported by the Trust include the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and the FDR Memorial.  According to Ms. Perkins:
Hate and violence have no place in our public discourse.  In the coming weeks and months, the physical symbols of American history and democracy will be scrutinized and challenged. We understand this debate is likely to extend to the National Mall, including many projects supported by the Trust.  When that happens, we will work with our partners to ensure the National Mall continues to be a vibrant and relevant place where Americans can learn about our history and imagine our future, together.
In other words, Ms. Perkins’ Trust is unilaterally surrendering to the likes of Al Sharpton even before he rounds up Black Lives Matter and some Antifa thugs to tear down the Jefferson Memorial altogether.  Instead of schooling the barbarians at the gate, better to placate them with a slice of our national integrity.
For sports fans and history buffs, this travesty is analogous to enshrining Barry Bonds to baseball’s Hall of Fame, while shaming him with an asterisk as a steroid user.  In Bonds’ case, the asterisk denotes something directly related to his accomplishments; the attacks on Jefferson are purely personal.  And while Bonds was a great player, Jefferson is literally on the Mount Rushmore of American history.
As a private citizen, Jefferson did own slaves, personally profited from the institution of slavery and kept Sally Hemmings as a mistress.  These facts are well-known and undisputed.
As a public figure, Thomas Jefferson opposed the institution of slavery.  On the northeast portico of the Jefferson Memorial itself are these words penned by Jefferson himself:
God who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that his justice cannot sleep forever. Commerce between master and slave is despotism. Nothing is more certainly written in the book of fate than these people are to be free.
If you want to learn more about Thomas Jefferson the man, you need only drive two hours west of the Jefferson Memorial to his home in Monticello.  There, you can learn everything you want about Jefferson, the thinker; Jefferson, the architect; Jefferson, the inventor; Jefferson, the naturalist.
And, yes, even Jefferson, the slave owner.  In fact, you can embark on one of the daily “Slavery at Monticello tours and download the free “Slavery at Monticello” app, if you so choose.
National memorials were not meant to expose the personal frailties of our leaders, but to celebrate the invaluable contributions they made to advance the American idea.
If we were to mark our collective remembrances of American heroes by their personal failings, we would denigrate George Washington as a slave owner, brand Abraham Lincoln a depressive, and chastise JFK, FDR, MLK and Bill Clinton as adulterers. In fact, there is a high likelihood that Washington will be the next target if Ms. Perkins and the “Trust” are not stopped now.
One prominent feature that has historically distinguished Americans from the rest of the world’s inhabitants is our shared spirit of optimism and hopefulness. Sometimes right, sometimes wrong, but never in doubt, we Americans may pause for reflection, but do not fall for introspection – and that’s a good thing.
Apparently, the Trust for the National Mall doesn’t get it.  Rick Manning, President of Americans for Limited Government, says the Trust’s actions are grounds for dismissal:
“Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke needs to set the record straight that a private non-profit group known as the Trust for the National Mall does not control memorial or museum content on the National Mall. While the money this non-profit, tax-exempt group raises to restore the Mall is appreciated, it does not give them the authority to change the Jefferson Memorial or any other statues in the name of political correctness. If the ‘Trust’ insists on changes, the Department of Interior should discontinue all ties with the group. The Jefferson Memorial and Washington Monument are testimonies to honor the ideals exemplified in the founding by Thomas Jefferson and George Washington, not to tear them down. They should be left just the way they are.”
Sources close to Interior Secretary Zinke express confidence that Zinke will not surrender control over the monuments to an associated non-profit, like the Trust.
Winston Churchill said, “History is written by the victors.”  There is now a dangerous, concerted effort to have it rewritten by the appeasers.  Mr. Jefferson would not be pleased.
