Don't dismiss the possibility of the House of Representatives bringing articles of impeachment against President Obama, senior White House adviser Dan Pfeiffer said today.
"I think a lot of people in this town laugh that off," Pfeiffer said at a breaking with reporters in Washington hosted by the Christian Science Monitor. "I would not discount that possibility. I think that Speaker [John] Boehner, by going down this path of this lawsuit, has opened the door to Republicans possibly considering impeachment at some point in the future."

The patient, Richard Plotts, 49, suddenly pulled a gun out of his waistband and shot his caseworker, Theresa Hunt, in the head at point blank range while inside psychiatrist Lee Silverman's office for a scheduled appointment on Thursday. Hunt was killed instantly, authorities said.

New Obama Executive Action Plan on Amnesty: Bring Kids to U.S. Directly From Central America    Katie Pavlich | Jul 25, 2014

Israeli Cabinet Unanimously Rejects Kerry's Temporary Truce Proposal         Guy Benson | Jul 25, 2014

Over the course of the current conflict, Hamas has turned down several ceasefire attempts, while Israel has agreed to the terms. The terrorist organization has conditioned any cessation of its rocketing campaign on Israel lifting its blockade of Gaza -- which was made necessary by previous Hamas attacks, and the purpose of which is to interdict additional weapons to be used in future attacks. Food, clothing, medicine, and other legitimate items are allowed to pass through. This demand is a nonstarter. US Secretary of State John Kerry traveled to the region and proposed a one-week truce that would allow breathing room for a broader deal to take shape. This time, it's Israel that has pre-emptively and decisively rejected the offer. Israel's leaders argue that the 'timeout' would interrupt their hard-fought ground incursion designed to destroy Hamas' so-called "terror tunnels." In short:

UPDATE - Israel has agreed to a 12-hour ceasefire:

Has Hamas agreed? (UPDATE II: Yes, apparently).

Can the Cops Cuff You For Filming an Arrest?  Tuesday, July 22, 2014

A number of recent arrests have highlighted the role citizen smartphones can play in documenting police action, and while courts have sided with camera-wielding observers in the past, civilians who tape police making a bust may still face their own arrest, legal experts and activists say.
Several court rulings have upheld a civilian’s First Amendment rights to videotape cops performing their jobs in public places, legal experts say.
Those same federal courts, however, also found “this federal constitutional right is not absolute, particularly when it comes to filming traffic stops,” said Professor Clay Calvert, director of the Marion B. Brechner First Amendment Project at the University of Florida. “The precise contours of the right have yet to be fully fleshed out.”

Gov. Rick Perry deploying up to 1,000 National Guard troops to border

Gov. Rick Perry, R-Texas, announced Monday that he is activating up to 1,000 National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border as he accuses the federal government of offering "lip service" on border security.
The announcement comes as the Obama administration is still struggling to deal with the influx of more than 50,000 unaccompanied minors, most from Central America, who have crossed into the United States in the past year. The additional resources are not aimed at the children themselves, Perry said, describing them instead as a "force multiplier" to help the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) "combat the brutal Mexican drug cartels that are preying upon our communities."

"I will not stand idly by while our citizens are under assault and little children from Central America are detained in squalor. We are too good of a country," Perry said.

Marines prepare for terror attacks at "Disaster Disneyland"

PERRY, Ga. -- Marines are training for the "what-if" scenario that keeps counter-terrorism experts up at night - an attack on a major American city. They're at a facility nicknamed "The Disaster Disneyland," CBS News correspondent Mark Strassmnan reports.
Imagine this: terrorists have detonated a 10-kiloton nuclear bomb in downtown Indianapolis. There are 17,000 casualties. Specially-trained Marines have pushed inside a five-mile "hot zone" of radiation that rings the city.
"Our first priority is to save lives," said Colonel Stephen Redifer. "So give me the toughest mission that you have, densest population, and we'll immediately begin dragging those casualties out."

Police Arrest Man With Gun at Capitol Building

Capitol Police arrested an individual today for attempting to enter a Capitol Hill office building with a gun, less than a week after a staffer for Rep. Tom Marino (R-PA) was arrested for the same offense.
Police say that Ronald William Prestage, 59, of Camden, SC was entering the Cannon House Office Building at the rotunda entrance around 9:20am this morning when police detected a 9mm Ruger handgun in his bag during the administrative security search that every member of the public and staff undergoes when entering Capitol Hill office buildings.
Prestage, who IS NOT a staffer, was charged with carrying a pistol without a license.
Prestage's arrest comes after Ryan Shucard, the Press Secretary for Rep Tom Marino (R-PA), was arrested for attempting to carry a 9mm Smith and Wesson into the Cannon building on Friday. Shucard, who had only worked for Marino since May of 2014, was placed on unpaid leave.

"COMMON CORE"

Louisiana Gov. Jindal Sued Over Common Core
Parents and teachers who support the Common Core education standards are suing Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, accusing him of illegally meddling in education policy.
The lawsuit filed Tuesday says the Republican governor and his Division of Administration "have sown chaos in the education system" and violated the Louisiana Constitution by issuing a series of executive orders aimed at undermining Common Core.
Jindal said in a statement that the lawsuit has no merit and cited a law that gives his administration the authority to oversee contracts.
In June, Jindal suspended testing contracts that the state education department planned to use to buy testing material aligned with Common Core for the upcoming school year.
The governor said the department didn't follow state procurement law and needed to seek competitive bids for the work, but he also acknowledged he took the action to disrupt Louisiana's use of the Common Core standards.
The standards are grade-by-grade benchmarks of what students should learn. More than 40 states have adopted them.
The lawsuit said Jindal's actions don't comply with constitutional provisions that give education policy-setting authority to the Legislature and implementation authority to a special board.
Jindal was a one-time Common Core supporter and is a potential presidential candidate in 2016. He now opposes the standards as a federal intrusion into local education, echoing criticisms levied by tea party supporters around the country.
Report Finds Islamic Plot to Control UK Schools LONDON — Jul 22, 2014,   By MATTHEW KNIGHT Associated Press

A British government investigation found evidence Tuesday that Muslim fundamentalists successfully gained control of some schools, raising fears that pupils are now vulnerable to radicalization.
It said there was an "effective take-over" by like-minded people of a number of schools in Birmingham, Britain's second-largest city, leading to "the reinforcement of Muslim identity to the exclusion or disparagement of others."
British Education Secretary Nicky Morgan said the report's findings were disturbing.
"What has been so upsetting about the history in this small handful of schools is that the success of efforts to encourage more British Muslims to take up governing roles has been damaged by the actions of a few," she said.
The report found "coordinated, deliberate and sustained action" by a number of people to introduce an "intolerant and aggressive Islamic ethos" into some of the city's schools. It pointed to a pattern in which school authorities criticized well regarded head teachers and senior teachers were bullied, while new governing board staff members were rapidly promoted.
The investigation examined online discussions between one all-male group of teachers at Park View School and found them to have disparaged certain strands of Islam, expressed homophobic sentiments and sought to increase segregation at the school.
The report said Birmingham City Council failed to alert authorities of the practices that made some teachers worry pupils were learning to be intolerant of diversity, and may now find it harder to question or challenge radical influences.
As a consequence of the report, the council said its whistle-blowing processes will be strengthened and teachers involved face being barred from the profession.
Mohammed Zabar, a Muslim parent whose daughter attends Oldknow Academy, welcomed the report. He said parents did not speak out for fear of speaking "against Islam."
Investigators did not find evidence of violent extremism or terrorism.

The tree was removed last month. LaBonge says it will be replanted in the fall.
After Harrison's 2001 death in Los Angeles, the pine was planted near Griffith Observatory. A small plaque at the base commemorates the guitarist and songwriter, who had a deep appreciation of gardening.

Sunday, July 20, 2014 REPOSTED FROM THE DIPLOMAD

Regular readers of this blog know my view on how to deal with the self-proclaimed jihadis of the Muslim world who seek victory or martyrdom. Give them option "b."

I hope that this time, at long last, the Israelis will not listen to the voices of "caution," of "moderation," of "reasonableness," of "humaneness," etc. For the refugees in Gaza, who, in fact, overwhelmingly are not, the greatest weapon on their side is the IDF. It is the IDF which can liberate Gaza and the "refugees" from Hamas and the other jihadi lunatics and authoritarian corruptocrats who have turned Gaza into the widely recognized model for corruption and chaos that it is, and, of course, into a vast killing field.

Homeless Men Killed.

WHAT KIND OF KIDS ARE WE GROWING HERE IN THE U.S.??
Bedding, clothing and broken glass litter a homeless encampment in Albuquerque, Monday, July 21, 2014, where three teenagers are accused of fatally beating two homeless men.

Three teenagers accused of fatally beating two homeless men beyond recognition with cinder blocks, bricks and a metal fence pole may have been terrorizing transients around Albuquerque for months, police said Monday.
The father of two of the boys said they were once homeless themselves and he had no idea what prompted the beatings. One of the boys told police they had attacked about 50 homeless people over the last few months, but had never gone that far. But on Friday night, he was angry about breaking up with his girlfriend, he said.
Alex Rios, 18, and two boys aged 16 and 15 were ordered held on $5 million bond each during initial court appearances Monday. They face murder charges stemming from the brutal attack in an Albuquerque lot where neighbors say transients regularly camped at night.
Following their arrest, the 15-year-old also told police that the trio had been targeting homeless people for the past year, according to a criminal complaint.
Prosecutors requested bonds of just $1 million, but Metropolitan Court Judge Linda Rogers set it higher, citing the gravity of the alleged crimes and the suspects' potential to flee. The district attorney's office said the younger suspects were charged as serious youthful offenders, meaning they could be tried in adult court.
The two younger defendants, one wiping away tears, sat in the courtroom while Rios made his appearance by closed circuit video from the county jail. [NOT CRYING WHEN SMASHING THE HOMELESS FACES I'LL BET]
Family and attorneys for the three declined comment after the proceeding.
According to the criminal complaint, the 15-year-old told police the attack lasted more than an hour, and that the trio took turns picking up cinder blocks over their heads and smashing them into the faces of the men who had been sleeping in the field across from his home, according to the criminal complaint.

Perry Sending National Guard Troops to Border

Gov. Rick Perry said Monday he is deploying up to 1,000 National Guard troops over the next month to the Texas-Mexico border to combat criminals that Republican state leaders say are exploiting a surge of children and families entering the U.S. illegally.
Perry, a vocal critic of the White House's response to the border crisis — and who is mulling a second presidential run in 2016 — said the state has a responsibility to act after "lip service" from the federal government.
He rejected suggestions that Texas was militarizing local communities by putting National Guard troops on the ground or that crime data along the border doesn't justify additional resources.
The deployment will cost Texas an estimated $12 million a month. Texas Adjutant General John Nichols said his troops would simply be "referring and deterring" immigrants and not detaining people — though Nichols said the National Guard could if asked.
"We think they'll come to us and say, 'Please take us to a Border Patrol station," Nichols said.
More than 3,000 Border Patrol agents currently work in the region, and Perry has repeatedly asked Obama to send the National Guard to the border. Much of the area has been overwhelmed in recent months by tens of thousands of unaccompanied children illegally entering the U.S.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection didn't respond to a request for comment Monday.

Obama: It's Time for Russia to "Get Serious" Daniel Doherty | Jul 21, 2014

There are lots of moving parts to the unfolding crisis in Ukraine. Over the weekend, the US government released considerable evidence that the downing of Malaysian Flight MH17 was almost certainly perpetrated by pro-Russian separatists. Since the beginning, of course, the evidence has always pointed back to Moscow, but now, it seems, we have circumstantial proof. This is significant. At the same time, western leaders are taking increasingly pointed measures to ensure a fair and impartial investigation still comes to fruition.

Now is the time for Putin and Russia to pivot away from the strategy they’ve been taken and get serious.”
“The world deserves to know exactly what happened,” he said.

WH: We Haven't Changed the President's Schedule Amid Crises Because it Might Scare People   Guy Benson | Jul 21, 2014

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As smoke billowed from the downed Malaysian jetliner in the fields of eastern Ukraine on Thursday, President Obama pressed ahead with his schedule: a cheeseburger with fries at the Charcoal Pit in Delaware, a speech about infrastructure and two splashy fund-raisers in New York City. The potential for jarring split-screen imagery was clear. Reports of charred bodies and a ground-to-air missile attack from Eastern Europe dominated television screens while photographers snapped pictures of a grinning Mr. Obama holding a toddler at the restaurant. The presidential motorcade was later filmed pulling up to Trump Place Apartments, the Riverside Avenue venue for his first fund-raiser. And yet, White House aides said no consideration was given to abandoning the president’s long-planned schedule, even during the hour long flight from Delaware to New York, when word suddenly arrived that Israel had begun a ground invasion of the Gaza Strip, providing the day’s second international challenge.

The woman's allegations come with a description of the Klan's initiation ceremony that included kneeling with pillow cases over their heads.
The departures from the Fruitland Park Police Department earlier this month of Deputy Chief David Borst and Officer George Hunnewell have revived emotions of Fruitland's past. The department had already dismissed an officer in 2009 for being affiliated with the KKK and the overwhelmingly white former citrus town turned retirement community has had a history of racial violence in the 1940s and 1950s.
Since the initial news of the investigation broke, the release of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's report has revealed more details about the explanation that Hunnewell's ex-wife gave to attempt to support his claims of innocence.
The FDLE report states that Ann Hunnewell told investigators that she was working as a secretary for the Fruitland Park Police Department in 2008 when she and her then-husband George were assigned to an undercover mission by then-chief James Isom.
"Ann Hunnewell said in 2008 through 2009, she and her ex-husband successfully infiltrated the [United Northern and Southern Knights] chapter of the KKK in an undercover capacity," the report states.

Has Citizenship Jumped The Shark? Derek Hunter | Jul 20, 2014

Growing up, I was – as I assume you were – inundated with lists of “the benefits of citizenship.” The list was long and capped, naturally, by the fact the United States was the best, strongest, freest nation on the planet.
Being an American was a source of pride. But is it still? Do the benefits of citizenship still outweigh the alternative?
As progressives cheer the dissolution of our southern border and, by extension, our sovereignty, it’s worth looking at the benefits of non-citizenship illegal aliens now enjoy and comparing them to the responsibilities of citizenship.
Most people don’t like paying taxes. But it’s the price of citizenship, and if we don’t we face losing our property and jail time. We also do it because the government has legitimate functions that only it can do and that need to be paid for. It also does way more than it needs to or should, but that’s an argument for another time.

Pre-Show Hot Mike Catches Kerry Mocking Israel-Avoids Repeating When Asked During Show      July 20, 2014 by Jeff Dunetz

On Sunday John Kerry forgot the number one rule of being miked for an interview; the microphone is always on. The Secretary of State was miked and on camera waiting for an interview with Fox News Sunday’s Chris Wallace when he spoke to an aide about an Israeli operation resulting in the deaths of 14 IDF solders. Kerry’s reaction was a mocking:

It’s a hell of a pinpoint operation. “It’s a hell of a pinpoint operation. We’ve got to get over there. Thank you, John. I think, John, we ought to go tonight. I think it’s crazy to be sitting around.”
Kerry was shaking his head no as Wallace explained that he was going to play the conversation. But when given the opportunity to explain himself Kerry went into full “diplo-spin” mode.
