It is clear that Vice President Mike Pence isn’t a big fan of the United Nations.
The UN made a big mistake by having him speak in front of the UN Human Rights Council.
With just one sentence, he silenced everyone in the room.
Last week, while speaking to the Human Rights Council, Vice President Pence called for a complete re-haul of their practices.
He didn’t mince words with his criticisms.
In his brief exchange he got straight to the point, calling them out first for their membership recruitment policies that welcome some of the world’s worse countries for human rights violations.
He also called for an end to the anti-Semitism that infects many of their resolutions.
In his opening line he stated:
“The United Nations is bound by its charter to foster ‘International cooperation in promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all.’ That was the purpose under which the U.N. Human Rights Council was formed. But the truth is, the Human Rights Council doesn’t deserve its name.”
Pence then gave examples of human rights violating countries that are a part of the Council, including Cuba and Venezuela, which both continue to commit atrocities against their own people.
As reported by The Daily Wire:
“On Wednesday, Vice President Mike Pence addressed the United Nations Security Council, and called for a complete reformation, including changes to the Human Rights Council’s membership recruitment policies, and end to the anti-Semitism that infects their resolutions.

Pence began, “The United Nations is bound by its charter to foster ‘International cooperation in promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all.’ That was the purpose under which the U.N. Human Rights Council was formed. But the truth is, the Human Rights Council doesn’t deserve its name.”
The Vice President then called out the HRC for recruiting brutal regimes. “Today, the United Nations Human Rights Council actually attracts and welcomes many of the worst human rights violators in the world. A clear majority of the Human Rights Council’s members fail to meet even the most basic human rights standards.”
Pence continued, “Cuba sits on the Human Rights Council, an oppressive regime that has repressed its people and jailed political opponents for more than half a century. Venezuela sits on the Human Rights Council, a dictatorship that undermines democracy at every turn, imprisons political opponents, and as we speak is advancing policies that worsen deprivation and poverty that’s costing the lives of innocent men, women, and children.””
Pence clearly befuddled the entire council.
But the Vice President didn’t stop there.
He then went on to call them out for their anti-Semitic treatment of Israel.
Pence pointed out that the Human Rights Council has a specific agenda item that singles out Israel for discussion at every meeting, something that no other nation must endure.
Before closing, Pence also warned about the danger presented by North Korea and Iran, and that the Human Rights Council should spend more time dealing with those countries that are a major threat to everyone around the world.
In the past days, President Trump and Vice President Pence have both made it clear to the United Nations that they are serious about reform, unlike former President Obama.
