Officials say the suspect in custody for the shooting that seriously injured a Philadelphia police officer has confessed to the crime, saying he did it 'in the name of Islam.'At the same exact press conference, Philadelphia's mayor refused to take the Muslim attacker at his word. ABC WPVI reports:
Commissioner Richard Ross provided that update during a news conference on Friday afternoon. He said there was no indication from the suspect, 30-year-old Edward Archer of Yeadon, that he was involved in a conspiracy.
Archer had pledged his allegiance to ISIS, officials say, calling the shooting "an attempted assassination of a police officer.” …
Dressed in what sources say is Muslim garb and wearing a mask, the suspect is seen pointing a gun at the officer's vehicle, while another shows what appears to be the muzzle flash as he fires.
Also at the news conference, Mayor Jim Kenney said the shooting had nothing to do with "being a Muslim or the Islamic faith."

Today, the Administration is announcing the following executive actions to ensure that all gun dealers are licensed and run background checks, and to strengthen the background check system itself:READ MORE
Clarify that it doesn’t matter where you conduct your business—from a store, at gun shows, or over the Internet: If you’re in the business of selling firearms, you must get a license and conduct background checks. Background checks have been shown to keep guns out of the wrong hands, but too many gun sales—particularly online and at gun shows—occur without basic background checks. Today, the Administration took action to ensure that anyone who is “engaged in the business” of selling firearms is licensed and conducts background checks on their customers. Consistent with court rulings on this issue, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has clarified the following principles:
A course manual sets out a simple rule that all asylum seekers need to learn and follow: “To force someone into sex is not permitted in Norway, even when you are married to that person.”
In Denmark, lawmakers are pushing to have such sex education included in mandatory language classes for refugees. The German region of Bavaria, the main entry point to Germany for asylum seekers, is already experimenting with such classes at a shelter for teenage migrants in the town of Passau.
Many refugees “come from cultures that are not gender equal and where women are the property of men,”
Mr. Isdal said. “We have to help them adapt to their new culture.”
A record number of firearms background checks were conducted by the FBI in 2015 — equating to roughly 44 every minute.
The agency reported Monday that it conducted a total of 23,141,970 checks last year, eclipsing the prior yearly record of roughly 21.1 million checks set in 2013.
The background checks are conducted through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System for gun purchases from federal firearms licensees and for permits to carry guns, and while the checks serve as an indicator of gun sale trends in the U.S., each check does not always equate to a sale.
Singer (March 27): Obama has often referred to himself as “a constitutional law professor” out on the campaign trail. He never held any such title. And I think anyone, if you ask anyone in academia the distinction between a professor who has tenure and an instructor that does not, you’ll find that there is … you’ll get quite an emotional response.
MSNBC Guest Complains That Criminals Are Discriminated Against
MSNBC has found a new victim class to champion during a segment on Melissa Harris- Perry’s show.
Daryl Atkinson, the Southern Coalition for Social Justice senior staff attorney was on to present to the world that people with criminal backgrounds are being discriminated against. During a segment that talked about President Barack Obama’s movement to ban a box on applications that ask whether the applicant has committed a crime other than a traffic violation, Atkinson made this statement,
“The president’s action on Monday really affirms values that we hold dear in this country. Values like inclusion and equal opportunity for all people because people with records face legal discrimination in many areas of life. The 65 million Americans, one in three adult Americans, that have a criminal record history, face barriers in employment, housing, education; even volunteering in their children’s school.”
Why should a bank be made aware of a person who committed grand theft auto last year when making a hiring decision that involves the handling of large amounts of money? Why should a school be made aware of a candidate’s background that includes convictions of drug distribution? Why should a hospital be made aware of a candidate’s criminal records that include sexual assault before making a hiring decision where they will be in a position of caretaker of those who are sometimes in helpless situations?

On Tuesday, January 5, 2016, Obama announced the executive action he had put in place in order to curb gun violence. He stated that people will be required to undergo a background check before they are sold a gun. He hopes that those changes will help reduce gun violence. Many people have voiced their opposition to the president’s speech. One of those people was Megyn Kelly.
