In the early days of the pandemic, I advocated for a temporary shutdown that I believed was necessary to prevent the healthcare system from collapsing. I also supported the widespread use of masks indoors because I believed they were better than nothing. Both of these opinions were based on the scant knowledge we had at the time and the concern that we would not be well-equipped to fight this virus.

But now we know two things for sure: the shutdown, which went from 14 days to several months, did a lot more harm than good. Meanwhile, the cloth masks that the vast majority of Americans use are barely better than useless. These were not solutions; they were Band-Aids, and we should not accept the reimposition of impractical restrictions when the only real solution — the vaccine — has been available to everyone for months.

Several states and cities are returning to mask mandates as the Delta variant spreads and vaccination rates wane. My own city, Washington, D.C., is reportedly planning on keeping its renewed mask mandate in place until Thanksgiving, even though we have a 7-day rolling average of zero coronavirus deaths. There is no reason for this — it is an anti-scientific policy, one that defies common sense. Just ask Mayor Muriel Bowser, who violated her own mandate while at a wedding the other weekend.

We are expected to follow guidance that is often so unnecessary and evidence-free that our own government leaders don’t bother following it. So, it’s time for the rest of us to start doing the same.

 ATOP THE WASHINGTON MONUMENT, ARE DISPLAYED TWO WORDS

One detail that is seldom mentioned is that in Washington, D.C. there can never be a building of greater height than the Washington Monument. With all the uproar about removing the Ten Commandments, etc., this is worth a moment or two of your time.

On the aluminum cap, atop the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C., are displayed two words: Laus Deo

No one can see these words. In fact, most visitors to the monument are totally unaware they are even there and for that matter, probably couldn't care less. Once you know Laus Deo's history, you will want to share this with everyone you know.

These words have been there for many years; they are 555 feet, 5.125 inches high, perched atop the monument, facing skyward to the Father of our nation, overlooking the 69 square miles which comprise the District of Columbia, capital of the United States of America.

Laus Deo! Two seemingly insignificant, unnoticed words. Out of sight and, one might think, out of mind, but very meaningfully placed at the highest point over what is the most powerful city in the most successful nation in the world.

So, what do those two words, in Latin, composed of just four syllables and only seven letters, possibly mean? Very simply, they say Praise be to God!

Though construction of this giant obelisk began in1848, when James Polk was President of the United States, it was not until 1888 that the monument was inaugurated and opened to the public. It took twenty-five years to finally cap the memorial with a tribute to the Father of our nation, Laus Deo, "Praise be to God!"

From atop this magnificent granite and marble structure, visitors may take in the beautiful panoramic view of the city with its division into four major segments. From that vantage point, one can also easily see the original plan of the designer, Pierre Charles L'Enfant ..... a perfect cross imposed upon the landscape, with the White House to the north, The Jefferson Memorial is to the south, the Capitol to the east and the Lincoln Memorial to the west.

A cross you ask? Why a cross? What about separation of church and state? Yes, a cross; separation of church and state was NOT, is NOT, in the Constitution.

So, read on.

How interesting and, no doubt, intended to carry a profound meaning for those who bother to notice.

When the cornerstone of the Washington Monument was laid on July 4th, 1848 deposited within it were many items including the Holy Bible presented by the Bible Society. Praise be to God! Such was the discipline, the moral direction, and the spiritual mood given by the founder and first President of our unique democracy 'One Nation, Under God.'

This is so true. I started on this journey over 10 years ago when my oldest child had her THIRD
reaction. And I've spent countless hours over the past decade researching, reading, listening & using my own common sense to come to the ever growing awakening that is still happening.

I have a book of over 400 studies put together by doctors from around the world - USA, Japan, Norway, etc.. that I bought & reference. This is not something I just decided over night or before it was cool to be 'anti *vaxx'.. this has been a passion of mine for a long time & if you care about the health of your family - you will do the research too. Not for the C*v*d jab but for ALL va**ines. Because they all contain terrible ingredients that even the FDA say exceed the safe limits yet have approved them anyway bc of $$$.

More than two dozen Chicago police officers reportedly turned their backs when greeted by Mayor Lori Lightfoot late Saturday at the hospital where an officer remains in critical condition.

Chicago Police Officer Ella French, 29, was shot and killed during a traffic stop Saturday night, while her partner fights for his life at the University of Chicago Medical Center. As Lightfoot visited the hospital about midnight Saturday, about 30 officers turned their backs to her when she approached them on the 7th floor, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Monday morning.

"It looked like it had been choreographed," a source told the outlet.

The male officer’s father, who is a retired Chicago cop, also gave the mayor an earful when she tried to talk to him, sources told the Sun-Times. She reportedly remained calm and attentive while he blamed her for what happened.

The mayor's press office provided a statement to Fox News, saying, "In a time of tragedy, emotions run high and that is to be expected."

"The Mayor spoke to a range of officers that tragic night and sensed the overwhelming sentiment was about concern for their fallen colleagues," the statement read. "As the Mayor stated yesterday, now is not the time for divisive and toxic rhetoric or reporting. This is a time for us to come together as a city. We have a common enemy and it is the conditions that breed the violence and the manifestations of violence, namely illegal guns, and gangs. The Mayor is focused on healing the wounds and will reject any and all that try to use this moment to drive further divisions in our city."

There are others who say we do too much for the police and that we never hold them accountable for what they do, particularly in Black and brown neighborhoods," Lightfoot said. "All of this, I say, stop. Just stop. This constant strife is not what we need in this moment. Of course, we have to continue the journey to achieve constitutional and accountable policing. That cannot be in debate at this point."

Lightfoot concluded her statement by calling on Chicagoans to "say thank you" when they see a police officer in public, adding, "We owe them a debt of gratitude that we will never truly be able to truly repay."
