Religion of Peace alert! Late Thursday, a Muslim attacker attempted to assassinate a police officer in West Philadelphia "in the name of Islam," pledging allegiance to Islamic State. The policeman was seriously injured. Police have detained Edward Archer as the suspect. The victim was Jesse Hartnett, 33, a five-year police veteran. He is in stable condition after pervasive injuries to his arm. ABC News West Philadelphia affiliate WPVI is reporting:  

Officials say the suspect in custody for the shooting that seriously injured a Philadelphia police officer has confessed to the crime, saying he did it 'in the name of Islam.'
Commissioner Richard Ross provided that update during a news conference on Friday afternoon. He said there was no indication from the suspect, 30-year-old Edward Archer of Yeadon, that he was involved in a conspiracy.
Archer had pledged his allegiance to ISIS, officials say, calling the shooting "an attempted assassination of a police officer.” …
Dressed in what sources say is Muslim garb and wearing a mask, the suspect is seen pointing a gun at the officer's vehicle, while another shows what appears to be the muzzle flash as he fires.

At the same exact  press conference, Philadelphia's mayor refused to take the Muslim attacker at his word. ABC WPVI reports:

Also at the news conference, Mayor Jim Kenney said the shooting had nothing to do with "being a Muslim or the Islamic faith."
