Few in U.S. See Guns, Immigration as Nation's Top Problems

The economy and jobs continue to be named as most important U.S. problems

by Frank Newport
PRINCETON, NJ -- Few Americans mention guns or immigration as the most important problems facing the nation today, despite the current attention lawmakers in Washington are giving to these issues. The economy still dominates as the top concern, followed by jobs and dissatisfaction with the general way in which Congress and the government work.
Trend: What do you think is the most important problem facing this country today? [OPEN-ENDED]
These data, from an April 4-7 survey, underscore the prominence of economic issues in Americans' minds, even as the economy continues its recovery from the recessionary depths of 2008.
In terms of specific economic issues, Americans most frequently name the economy in general (24%), jobs/unemployment (18%), and the deficit (11%). The percentage mentioning each of these economic issues is in the same broad range as has been the case each month this year so far, although a higher 20% mentioned the deficit as the nation's top problem in January.
From a longer-term perspective, top-of-mind mentions of these economic issues are down significantly from their five-year highs. A high of 58% mentioned the economy as the nation's top problem in November 2008, and 39% named jobs as the No. 1 issue in September 2011.

A QUOTE FROM 1944

MOST~of the American people do not remember the communist party of America ever having a candidate in the presidential elections and most Americans didn't notice when they stopped having a candidate. Shame on us!

Kerry says our "gun problem" is scaring away foreign students. ??

This is our "secretary of state" really knows what he's talking about [read highlighted text]

Citing the declining number of foreign students coming to the United States, secretary of state John Kerry argued that guns in America are frightening them away. In an interview with CNN’s foreign affairs correspondent Jill Dougherty in Tokyo, Kerry said that Japanese students in particular “think they’re not safe in the United States and so they don’t come.”
Kerry contended that Japanese youth feel safer in their country, which has highly restrictive gun-control policies, and “where people are not running around with guns.”
CNN notes however, that “International study is down markedly among Japanese students to all destinations, including the United States. Experts have attributed the decline to Japan’s low birthrate, the expense of foreign study in a poor economy, and a desire among Japanese young people to remain at home rather than venture to other countries.”

"Anonymous" To Westboro Baptist Church: Picket Boston Marathon Funerals At Your Own Risk

First responders were still on the scene at Boston's devastated Copley Square when fringe hate group Westboro Baptist Church announced it would be picketing the funeral of Boston Marathon bombing victims.

THANK GOD FOR THE BOSTON MARATHON BOMBS!! Westboro Baptist Church to picket funerals of those killed.
View image on Twitter  In the message, the group states that "Massachusetts invited this special wrath from God Almighty when it was the first state to pass same-sex marriage on May 17, 2004."
However, hacktivist group Anonymous made it very clear that if the WBC tried anything in Boston, they would feel the full fury of the online community.
Anonymous@YourAnonNews 20h
If WBC protests the Boston funerals, they will have to expect us.
WBC, an anti-gay, anti-Semitic group, has made a name for itself as an ambassador of the offensive. Throughout the past few years, the Kansas-based group has threatened to picket everything, including the funerals of victims of the Tucson Ariz., shooting,  as well as those of American soldiers and the victims of the Sandy Hook massacre.

After the group threatened to picket in Newtown, Conn., Anonymous launched a full-fledged attack on the WBC, publishing group members' personal information online, overtaking the group's main website.

Tell me again why the government wants to ban AR_15s ?

M16a1m16a2m4m16a45wi.jpg
At about 11:30 today, the police commissioner of Philadelphia {Charles Ramsey] gave a press conference regarding a missing AR-16, [a fully automatic assault rifle] These weapons were given to Philly by the U S army, they are Viet Nam era rifles. They were in the vault awaiting conversion to semi-automatic so they can be used by the Phila. police. They are kept in a gun vault at the Phila. police academy in northeast Phila. According to Ramsey, only a limited number of people have the combination and access to this vault. For some reason there is no video surveillance of this vault room.
What struck me about this press conference was that he gave some statistics about crime in Philadelphia, stating that assault weapons are only 2% of the shootings in philly.and trust me , there are a lot of shootings .

MARIJUANA BUST

Hello, is this the Police?"
"Yes. What do you want?"
"I'm calling to report about my neighbor Billy Smith! He is hiding marijuana inside his firewood."
"Thank you very much for the call, sir."
The next day, the Police descend on Billy’s house. They search the shed where the firewood is kept. Using axes, they bust open every piece of wood, but find no marijuana. They swore at Billy and left.
The phone rings at Billy's house: "Hey, Billy Bob! Did the Police come?"
"Yeah!"
"Did they chop your firewood?"
"Yep."
"Merry Christmas, Buddy"

IT MAY BE TIME TO CONSIDER THE JEFFERSON OPTION

treeofliberty
If this is true, or if it starts happening in many more States, then it is time to exercise the Jefferson option:
Despite promises from the president and a host of other politicians who are pushing for more gun control that nobody is coming for your guns, the confiscation of guns and gun permits has apparently started in some form in New York State. One attorney representing several people who have been forced to surrender their guns spoke with TheBlaze and alerted us to some disturbing facts:
  • Gun owners are losing their 2nd Amendment rights without due process.
  • HIPAA Laws are likely being compromised and the 4th and 5th Amendments are being violated in some of these cases
How did confiscation start happening so quickly? Apparently the gun grabbing was triggered by something inside the NY SAFE Act — New York’s new gun law — that has a provision apparently mandating confiscation of weapons and permits if someone has been prescribed psychotropic drugs.
Do not let this reference to drug prescriptions fool you into accepting the argument of the tyrants. You know full well that this is how they operate. They start with something they can claim everyone should agree with; something they can easily paint anyone who disagrees with it as an extremist. But then, they move to something else, and add something else until, eventually, everyone is covered by their restrictions. It’s the “progressive” way, and you should know this old two-step by now.

the public safety and second amendment rights protection act

Document

The Public Safety and Second Amendment Rights Protection Act
Sens. Joe Manchin and Pat ToomeyWednesday, Apr 10
Bottom Line: The Public Safety and Second Amendment Rights Protection Act would require states and the federal government to send all necessary records on criminals and the violently mentally ill to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). The bill extends the existing background check system to gun shows and online sales.
The bill explicitly bans the federal government from creating a national firearms registry, and imposes serious criminal penalties (a felony with up to 15 years in prison) on any person who misuses or illegally retains firearms records.
TITLE ONE: GETTING ALL THE NAMES OF PROHIBITED PURCHASERS INTO THE BACKGROUND CHECK SYSTEM
Summary of Title I: This section improves background checks for firearms by strengthening the instant check system.
- Encourage states to provide all their available records to NICS by restricting federal funds to states who do not comply.
- Allow dealers to voluntarily use the NICS database to run background checks on their prospective employees.
- Clarifies that submissions of mental health records into the NICS system are not prohibited by federal privacy laws (HIPAA).
- Provides a legal process for a veteran to contest his/her placement in NICS when there is no basis for barring the right to own a firearm.
TITLE TWO: REQUIRING BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR FIREARM SALES
Summary of Title II: This section of the bill requires background checks for sales at gun shows and online while securing certain aspects of 2nd Amendment rights for law abiding citizens.
- Closes the gun show and other loopholes while exempting temporary transfers and transfers between family members.
- Fixes interstate travel laws for sportsmen who transport their firearms across state lines in a responsible manner. The term “transport” includes staying in temporary lodging overnight, stopping for food, buying fuel, vehicle maintenance, and medical treatment.
- Protects sellers from lawsuits if the weapon cleared through the expanded background checks and is subsequently used in a crime. This is the same treatment gun dealers receive now.
- Allows dealers to complete transactions at gun shows that take place in a state for which they are not a resident.
- Requires that if a background check at a gun show does not result in a definitive response from NICS within 48 hours, the sale may proceed. After four years, when the NICS improvements are completed, the background check would clear in 24 hours. Current law is three business days.
- Requires the FBI to give priority to finalizing background checks at gun shows over checks at store front dealerships.
- Authorizes use of a state concealed carry permit instead of a background check when purchasing a firearm from a dealer.
- Permits interstate handgun sales from dealers.
- Allows active military to buy firearms in their home states.
- Family transfers and some private sales (friends, neighbors, other individuals) are exempt from background checks
TITLE THREE: NATIONAL COMMISSION ON MASS VIOLENCE
Summary of Title III: : This section of the bill creates a commission to study the causes of mass violence in the United States, looking at all aspects of the problem, including guns, school safety, mental health, and violent media or video games.
The Commission would consist of six experts appointed by the Senate Majority Leader and six experts appointed by the Speaker of the House. They would be required to submit an interim report in three months and a completed report in six months.
WHAT THE BILL WILL NOT DO
The bill will not take away anyone’s guns.
The bill will not ban any type of firearm.
The bill will not ban or restrict the use of any kind of bullet or any size clip or magazine.
The bill will not create a national registry; in fact, it specifically makes it illegal to establish any such registry.
The bill will not, in any way at all, infringe upon the Constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens

President Obama denounces political stunts during political stunt

President Obama denounces political stunts during political stunt
Obama is hopping mad about the growing list of Republican senators – now up to 14 names in all – who have signaled their willingness to join Senators Mike Lee (R-UT), Rand Paul (R-KY), and Ted Cruz (R-TX) in opposing gun control legislation, a vow that has generally been interpreted as a filibuster threat. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell added his name to the list on Monday.
This led to the following burst of cognitive dissonance from the President, as related by Fox News:
Obama criticized the proposed filibuster during a campaign-style event at the University of Hartford in Connecticut about 45 miles from the elementary school where 20 first-graders were shot and killed in December.
“Some back in Washington are already floating the idea that they might use political stunts,” said Obama, who was introduced by Nicole Hockley, whose son, Dylan, was one of the victims. “They’re not just saying they’ll vote ‘no’ on ideas that almost all Americans support. They’re saying they won’t allow any votes on them at all.”
Many in the crowd responded by chanting: “We want a vote.”
The president also said some family members who lost children in the Dec. 14 school shooting are referring to the massacre as 12/14, just like the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks are called 9/11.
“For these families, it was a day that changed everything,” Obama said. “And I know many of you in Newtown wondered if the rest of us would live up to the promises … once the television trucks left, once the candles flickered out, once the teddy bears were gathered up – your country would move on to other things. Newtown, we want you to know that we’re here with you.”
How dare these Republicans attempt a political stunt! Don’t they know only Obama is allowed to stage those? Obama’s little dramatic productions come at substantial taxpayer expense, since not only have the President and his immense retinue been flying around the country to hold campaign rallies, but he’s flying eleven family members of the Sandy Hook Elementary School victims back to Washington aboard Air Force One so they can lobby for new gun control laws. With all due respect to these grieving parents, how can that avoid classification as a “stunt?” Shouldn’t this legislation face sober deliberation, and stand on its own legal and logical merits?
It looks like the big post-Newtown gun control push is boiling down to universal background checks – which, whatever their other merits might be, would have done exactly nothing to stop the Newtown massacre, as the killer stole his guns from his mother. The Senate is expected to begin debating its gun-control package this week.

Mark Kelly Shoots Glock 9mm With 'High Capacity' Magazine on CNN

In an interview that will air on CNN's Anderson Cooper 360 on April 9, Gabby Giffords looks on from her mother's porch while Mark Kelly shoots bottles and clay pots in the Arizona desert with a Glock 19 9mm. The gun is actually Giffords's, but Kelly shoots it and wasn't shy about admitting he had a 17-round magazine in it.

Ironically, 17 rounds exceeds the 10 round limit that was being pushed in the Senate in February when Kelly spoke in favor of banning them.
Nevertheless, after CNN filmed Kelly target shooting, he justified using a 17-round magazine for the simple reason that it wasn't a 33-round magazine, which is what the shooter used who attacked Giffords with a Glock 19 9mm in January 2011.
Giffords and Kelly sat down with CNN interviewer Dana Bash after the target shooting was over, and Bash asked Kelly if he had stopped to think about how "incredulous" people might be seeing him continue to get "his kicks [by] shooting a gun?" To this Kelly simply said, "Gabby used to like shooting a gun too, occasionally."
Bash opened the interview by reminding viewers that Gabby Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly are still hopeful the Senate will pass gun control this week or next.

Mass Stabbing On Texas Campus With Weapons Ban

Reports indicate up to 14 people were stabbed by an individual armed with a knife at the Houston-area LoneStar College on the morning of April 9.

Reports also indicate that one of those stabbed is in critical condition.
There were allegedly two men armed with knives, one of whom has been captured. The school sent out an alert to students, warning them to lock their doors and stay inside until the second individual is apprehended as well.
The campus was also the site of a shooting in January.
Students who witnessed the stabbings have told stories of trying to run away and watching their friends get stabbed as they ran.
Long Star College is a Gun Free Zone that also bans the possession of many types of knives. This attack comes on heels of shooting at Long Star College in January.

Police Poll: Armed Citizens, not Gun Control, Will Lower Violent Crime

In a poll conducted by PoliceOne, a majority of law enforcement personnel said universal background checks, "assault weapons" bans, and "high capacity" magazine bans do not make police safer and will not lower violent crime. Armed citizens, on the other hand, do make a positive difference.

In the poll of 15,000 law enforcement professionals, 71% of respondents said an "assault weapons" ban would have zero impact on violent crime. Of those surveyed, 95.7% said the same of a "high capacity" magazine ban, and 79.7% said the same in response to a question on universal background checks.
Over 90% of these law enforcement professionals said "mandatory sentences with no plea bargains" for those who use a gun in perpetrating a crime would reduce violent crime.
When asked if they supported concealed carry laws for citizens without a felony in their past, 91.3% of respondents answered "yes" on "without question and without further restrictions."
Additionally, 80% of these law enforcement professionals also agreed that casualties at Sandy Hook Elementary would "have likely been reduced" if "legally-armed citizens" had been in the school.

Navy's New Laser Weapon Blasts Bad Guys From Air, Sea

No longer the fantasy weapon of tomorrow, the U.S. Navy is set to field a powerful laser that can protect its ships by blasting targets with high-intensity light beams.
Early next year the Navy will place a laser weapon aboard a ship in the Persian Gulf where it could be used to fend off approaching unmanned aerial vehicles or speedboats.
The Navy calls its futuristic weapon LAWS, which stands for the Laser Weapon System. What looks like a small telescope is actually a weapon that can track a moving target and fire a steady laser beam strong enough to burn a hole through steel.
A Navy video of testing conducted last summer off the coast of California shows how a laser beam fired from a Navy destroyer was able to set aflame an approaching UAV or drone, sending it crashing into the ocean.
"There was not a single miss" during the testing, said Rear Admiral Matthew Klunder, chief of Naval Research. The laser was three for three in bringing down an approaching unmanned aerial vehicle and 12 for 12 when previous tests are factored in.
But don't expect in that video to see the firing of colored laser bursts that Hollywood has used for its futuristic laser guns. The Navy's laser ray is not visible to the naked eye because it is in the infrared spectrum.
Many of the details about how the laser works remain secret, such as how far its beam can travel, how powerful it is or how much power is used to generate it.
But Navy officials have provided a few unclassified details. For example, the laser is designed to be a "plug and play" system that integrates into a ship's existing targeting technologies and power grids. Those factors make it a surprisingly cheap weapon.
Klunder says each pulse of energy from the laser "costs under a dollar" and it can be used against weapons systems that are significantly more expensive. The Navy says it has spent about $40 million over the past six years in developing the weapon.

follow up on previous post, it' not happening just in Georgia

Wayne VidenBob's Little Sports Shop in Glassboro, NJ, told "Right Views" that Comcast will no longer allow the store to show guns or archery in television advertisements.
"They don't want to show firearms on advertising anymore," he added.
Bob's Little Sports Shop has been running ads with Comcast for years, and this isn't the first time they have censored the store's advertisements.
"This is not the first time this has happened with us," Wayne says.
"We first redid our new commercial with them - and I'm guessing it was five years ago or so - the original commercial was shot with people actually shooting guns in our range.
"They wouldn't allow that. They wouldn't allow them actually showing the gun being shot in a safe environment in the range...they wouldn't actually show the gun being fired."
"Right Views" asked, "Now, they will not even show a gun?"
"No, they won't even show guns in the background."

ANOTHER HYPOCRITE !! comcast tells local stores they won't run gun commercials

BUSINESSES TOLD GUNS CANNOT BE SHOWN IN ADS

DOESN'T STOP COMCAST FROM RUNNING MICHAEL BLOOMBERGS ANTI GUN ADS [SHOWING FIREARMS]

COMCAST IS A MAJORITY SHAREHOLDER OF NBC CABLE CHANNEL
Ray Reynolds is up in arms after Comcast banned commercials for his downtown Augusta pawnshop.

MICHAEL HOLAHAN/STAFF
Ray Reynolds, the manager at United Loan and Firearms, says Comcast's decision to remove weapons ads is "out-and-out censorship … That's them pushing their political agenda."

Unless he removes weapons from the ads, the cable giant won't run the commercials for United Loan and Firearms.
Reynolds, who manages the Broad Street store, was notified Thursday that he would be required to remove any reference or image of weapons from his current ad in order to comply with Comcast's new policy, which was put in place after the company purchased NBCUniversal. The policy adheres to NBC standards.
"What really got me was when they said that we had enough name recognition that we could get by with just saying United Loan," Reynolds said. "They were going to actually make us eliminate 'Firearms' from our name."
The business's most recent commercial, a spoof of the reality show Pawn Stars, shows firearms on the rack and inside the counter in less than 25 percent of the video, Reynolds said.
The store also sells nonlethal self-protection devices, jewelry and other items. The ad did not show, nor does the store sell, so-called assault weapons, he said.
Reynolds was told by his Comcast representative that the move was made after the December shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, where 20 children and six adults were killed.
Chris Ellis, the senior director of communications for Comcast Spotlight, which is the advertising sales division of Comcast Cable, responded to requests for information with a statement: "Consistent with long standing NBC policies", Comcast Spotlight has decided it will not accept new advertising for firearms or weapons.
The decision is hypocritical, Reynolds said, because Comcast continues to air violent shows and movies.
"The federal government is issuing us a license and says it's OK for us to sell guns," Reynolds said. "That's out-and-out censorship for Comcast to decide. That's them pushing their political agenda."
Eddie Walden, the owner of Walden's Outdoors in Martinez, has advertised for several years with Comcast. His family-owned business sells archery equipment, firearms and accessories.
He found out Monday that his commercials also will be pulled if changes aren't made to eliminate the depiction of weapons.
"I think it's wrong," Walden said. "I look at it as a free-speech thing."
