Barr on Durham Investigation: ‘Evidence Shows That We’re Not Dealing with Just Mistakes or Sloppiness’

U.S. attorney general William Barr implied in an interview Thursday that U.S. Attorney John Durham is prepared to prosecute former intelligence community officials if evidence shows they illegally surveilled the 2016 Trump campaign over allegations of collusion with Russia.
Barr, who tasked Durham last May to review the origins of the Russia investigation, told Fox News’s Laura Ingraham that the Connecticut U.S. attorney is “looking to bring to justice people who were engaged in abuses if he can show that there were criminal violations.
“My own view is that the evidence shows that we’re not dealing with just mistakes or sloppiness, there was something far more troubling here; and we’re going to get to the bottom of it,” Barr stated. “And if people broke the law, and we can establish that with the evidence, they will be prosecuted.”
Very little is publicly known of Durham’s work, which has since been upgraded to a criminal investigation, with House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jim Jordan (R., Ohio) saying last month that Durham’s investigation “is due to be completed sometime this summer.” But the probe’s scope goes beyond that of DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz, who in recent months has detailed how the FBI abused the FISA process in its Crossfire Hurricane investigation of the 2016 Trump campaign. “[Durham]’s not just looking at the FBI, he’s looking at other agencies, and departments, and also private actors, so it’s a much broader investigation,” Barr explained in December.

There’s a great piece over on American Thinker. Basically it’s saying that Chief Justice John Roberts made a trifecta of errors, so egregious that the the Senate should have immediately voted to have the case dismissed against President Trump.
The first error was a failure to hold House Democrat managers accountable for their gross breach of decorum. Having reminded both sides to be polite, he failed to admonish Chairman Nadler (D-N.Y.) for calling the president “a dictator.” This was part of a general trend on his part to favor the House Democrats over the president’s legal team.
What’s interesting is if Nadler had made that personal insult during a House debate his words would have been “taken down” under Rule XVII, clause 4, of the standing rules of the House of Representatives. Disorderly, or unparliamentary, remarks are a violation of House rules of decorum. This mechanism, which is referred to as “words taken down,” may be invoked during debate on the House floor, in the Committee of the Whole, or in the standing and select committees of the House. And, Members whose words are determined to be unparliamentary may not be recognized to speak for the rest of the day (even on yielded time) unless the Member is allowed to proceed in order by unanimous consent or a motion.
Error number two for Chief Justice Roberts, according to Ed Timperlake’s great article, is that he failed to admonish the House managers or hold them accountable for committing perjury. Adam Schiff lied persistently, inventing words he claimed the President had uttered on the infamous Ukrainian call.
Error three occurred when Senator Rand Paul asked a question that was not allowed that obliquely referred to the “whistleblower” but did not name him. This goes to the heart of the Confrontation Clause of the Sixth Amendment (facing one’s accusers) that says if the person reporting the transgression is not present, then the judge will issue a verdict of not guilty. The Sixth Amendment is one of the foundational stones upon which our entire edifice of a fair system of justice is built.
Senator Rand Paul: My question today is about whether or not individuals who were holdovers from the Obama National Security Council and Democrat partisans conspired with Schiff staffers to plot impeaching the president before there were formal House impeachment proceedings.
This was not a good look for the Supreme Court. We expect better from the Chief Justice.

WASHINGTON — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said Monday that they would not back down from their demands over an interim coronavirus relief bill in Congress, continuing a standoff with Republicans on the additional aid.
In a joint statement, the pair of Democratic leaders said the measure must include money for hospitals and states, support for families who rely on food stamps and aid to small businesses that they say are currently excluded from a government program.
“Small businesses, hospitals, frontline workers and state and local governments across the country are struggling to keep up with this national crisis. They need more help from the federal government and they need it fast – our nurses, doctors and health care workers need it as much as anyone else,” they said.
The funding included in the $2 trillion stimulus package signed into law last month, which was the third installment of coronavirus relief from Congress, “will not be enough to cover the tremendous need,” they said.
Pelosi and Schumer said further changes must be made to the Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program because many eligible small businesses are being excluded by big banks. They're also seeking to direct some of the proposed increase in funding for the program, which provides forgivable loans to cover things like payroll and overhead, to small businesses owned by families, women, minorities and veterans.
“Funding for Covid-19 SBA disaster loans and grants must be significantly increased to satisfy the hundreds of billions in oversubscribed demand,” they said.
The impasse comes after the Trump administration requested that Congress pass $250 billion in emergency funding for the small-business loan program, and Democrats responded with their proposal outlining their additional demands. Senate Republicans, however, failed to pass the original GOP proposal by unanimous consent last week and then promptly blocked the Democrats’ alternative plan.
On Saturday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., said in a joint statement that they weren’t interested in negotiating.
“Republicans reject Democrats’ reckless threat to continue blocking job-saving funding unless we renegotiate unrelated programs which are not in similar peril,” they said.
Schumer and Pelosi said in their statement Monday that Republicans must stop their “political posturing” in offering legislation that they know won’t pass either chamber.
The Democratic leaders also suggested that the U.S. is nowhere near a situation where the country can reopen, saying, “there is still not enough testing available to realistically allow that to happen.

On the same day that Democrats voted t block sending more aid to American small businesses, Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein demanded that the United States send the Iranian government $5 billion dollars.
"The coronavirus has hit Iran hard, with the potential for even greater spread in the region. In the interest of international security, President Trump should support Iran’s request to the IMF for emergency funds to contain this virus," she tweeted with a photo of her full statement.
“I am disappointed to see reports that your administration intends to block Iran from receiving $5 billion in humanitarian aid from the IMF to combat the coronavirus pandemic,” the letter reads. “Providing these funds to Iran would help it respond more effectively to the disease and mitigate the risk of further destabilization in the region.”

Red Flag laws have garnered a lot of criticism recently as they have been making the rounds. Many saw they are necessary to end gun violence from troubled individuals. Yet on the other hand, there are those who are very concerned about the potential for the government to override constitutional rights based on what they deem as harmful.
Democrat leaders of the state legislature praised the new laws.
"Senate Majority Leader Dick Saslaw called Friday “a monumental day,” while Speaker Eileen Filler-Corn said Virginians “demanded action and we delivered.”
What will come of these laws remains to be seen. Will they work?
Or will the unnecessarily limit the rights of US citizens?
One thing that did not pass was legislation over assault weapons. This “ambitious” goal led to huge protests in the state that received national media attention with very high stakes at play. The people of Virginia (at least a portion of them) made it very clear that they were NOT OK with an assault weapon ban.
But, for assault weapons rights activists, the fight is far from over.
“We have come short on that particular issue,” Northam said on a press call Friday, saying he plans to push it again in the following session."

April 6, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, as well as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, said life after COVID-19 will not be the same “for some time,” or at least until the population is “widely vaccinated.”
In a lengthy interview with CBS This Morning, released on April 2, Gates predicted that people’s fear of large public gatherings would be closer to normal “once we have the vaccination,” possibly 18 months.
“Our foundation works a lot on diagnostics and vaccines,” Gates said. Vaccine producers are the ones “that can really get things back on track where we’re not worried about large public gatherings.”
According to Gates, “there’s a lot of dialog between our foundation experts and the government,” about opening up life to normal activities after the pandemic is under control.

Although it is too early to comprehensively evaluate the Trump administration’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, we can objectively analyze it thus far and see that the decisions made by the White House have saved American lives – possibly millions of them.
That doesn’t mean there isn’t room for introspection or reforms, which have inevitably followed previous disasters – from JFK’s assassination to 9/11. It’s paramount we learn from history, for history doesn’t repeat itself so much as human beings make the same mistakes. But the media’s unrelenting bias, fueled by a visceral hatred for the president, is beyond the pale. It is past time to put the administration’s response in context.

The most incompetent and uninformed president in history has led the federal government into the worst emergency response to a pandemic that we have ever seen in this country,” MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell ranted on March 12. “More people are sick in America tonight, because Donald Trump is president. More people are dead and dying in America tonight because Donald Trump is president.”
Not to be outdone, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) sank to new depths on CNN last Sunday, when she basically accused President Trump of negligent homicide: “As the president fiddles, people are dying.”

These rapidly changing figures are grim, especially with the U.S. now suffering the world’s highest coronavirus caseload. But how do these data compare with those overseas? How is a nation with 332 million people managing against, say, China, from where COVID-19 crawled, population 1.4 billion?
Social scientists would gauge these disparate figures as they would evaluate nations along other key metrics, such as GDP: on a per capita basis. Using Johns Hopkins’ priceless and highly televised COVID-19 website and the CIA World Factbook’s population forecasts for July 2020, one easily can judge America’s relative international performance against this invisible enemy.
The figures show the United States in the middle of the pack of G7 nations in terms of cases, deaths, and recoveries per capita. Those statistics, like any poll, represent a moment in time. What we know for certain is that President Trump and the White House coronavirus task force are working tirelessly to flatten the curve and reopen the economy as soon as possible.

Members of Congress have introduced legislation designed to limit U.S. reliance on Chinese manufacturing for essential goods, specifically live-saving pharmaceuticals.

Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) and Zithromax (azithromycin) could be used to fight COVID-19. Although the left responds with fire and fury even when President Trump cautiously acknowledges that.

“Very encouraging” and “real chance” are words of aspiration — not prescription.
And Trump repeatedly has said that these drugs ultimately might fail, but should be investigated. “What the hell do you have to lose?” he asked.
