Boehner to Obama: Remember Your Oath of Office and the Constitution?                                                                            The GOP finds itself in a difficult situation when it comes to long-term spending problems, House Speaker John Boehner said Thursday: "instead of looking to work together the president reminded people this week that he has 'a pen and a phone.' I would remind the president he also has a constitution and an oath of office that he took where he swore to faithfully execute the laws of our country."

This week, once again, we heard President Obama defiantly pronounce that he has no intention of letting a little thing like constitutional checks and balances get in his way and interrupt his royal prerogative.
"We are not just going to be waiting for legislation in order to make sure that we're providing Americans the kind of help that they need," said Obama. "I've got a pen, and I've got a phone."

So Benghazi finally claims another victim.
The knife sticking out of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s back was stuck there slowly by fellow pantsuiter, Sen. Diane Fienstein, (D-Kalf.) who chairs the Senate Intelligence committee for the gentleman’s club also known as the United States Senate.
That knife means that Hillary is probably dead. At least as a presidential candidate.
Oh, yes, the New York Times won’t give it up quite yet.
But for Hillary, it’s o-v-e-r.

Girl, 4, fatally shoots cousin, 4, while playing at grandpa's Detroit home

A 4-year-old girl shot dead her 4-year-old cousin with a rifle that she found while playing at her grandfather's house Thursday in Detroit.
Police said the "tragic accident" was a case of irresponsible gun ownership but have not yet made any arrests.
The girl shot the boy on Thursday afternoon at a home on the city's west side, Detroit Police 3rd Deputy Chief Rodney Johnson told NBC News.
"This is a tragic, tragic accident, and it could have been avoided," Johnson said.
The children were visiting their grandfather but had been left in the care of a family friend when the incident happened, Johnson said.
Emergency services were called at about 4:35 p.m., and the boy was taken to Henry Ford Hospital, where he died.
 
Police are still investigating and have not ruled out charges.
The Detroit Free Press reported that the girl found the gun loaded and not locked in a case underneath the bed. Johnson described the weapon as a "long rifle" but could not confirm where the girl had found

Strachan also claimed Obama’s intervention in Syria "increased the likelihood that if there is a change of regime in Syria that it will be an Islamic fundamentalist one."

Bipartisan Senate Benghazi Report: Attacks Were 'Preventable'


 
A new bipartisan report based on the results of the Senate Intelligence Committee's Benghazi probe is not a whitewash, unlike the administration's incomplete review. The findings blame the Obama administration for a series of failures that culminated in the 9/11/12 terrorist attack that left four Americans dead, including the sitting ambassador to Libya. The deadly raid came after several previous attempted attacks on the US diplomatic mission in Benghazi, and after Hillary Clinton's State Department ignored and rejected several requests for an increased security presence on the ground. The report largely confirms what we already knew about the attacks, and leaves a number of critical questions unanswered. That said, it's fairly straightforward and unsparing in its assessments:
     A long-delayed Senate intelligence committee report released on Wednesday spreads blame among the State Department and intelligence agencies for not preventing attacks on two outposts in Libya that killed four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador J. A man who loved the outdoors was carried to his grave in a boat pulled by a truck on Wednesday.
The casket of 78-year-old Ronald Bloss Sr. was loaded onto a small motor boat and trailer and pulled to a cemetery by a pickup truck driven by one of his five sons, Diehl Funeral Home director Michael Gladfelter said.
Bloss, who lived in Mount Wolf, about 30 miles south of Harrisburg, the state capital, loved hunting, fishing and spending time on rivers, the York Daily Record reported. He had several boats, and family members came up with the idea of using one for his final journey, Gladfelter said.
Gladfelter said he doesn't recall the funeral home ever using a boat in place of a hearse before and he wishes there had been time to create a sign reading “Gone Fishing” to hang on the side of it.

Bloss was a U.S. Navy veteran who also enjoyed coaching and umpiring. He died at his home on Saturday.

The parents of a six-year-old girl said their daughter was humiliated when a teacher interrupted the child’s one-minute speech and told her to sit down because she’s “not allowed to talk about the Bible in school,” attorneys for the California family allege.
The incident occurred Dec. 19 inside a first grade classroom at Helen Hunt-Jackson Elementary School in Temecula, Calif. The previous day the teacher instructed boys and girls to find something at home that represented a family Christmas tradition. Crime Study Debunks Mass Shooting Myths
 
         An assault weapons ban would work. They found that the typical weapon used is a pistol, not an “assault weapon” like the semi-automatic AR-15 rifle.
Are mass shootings really on the rise in America? Will an increased focus on mental health help prevent mass murders? Would expanded background checks really make a difference? The answer to all of these questions, according to author and Northeastern University criminology professor James Alan Fox, is no.
In the study, “Mass Shootings in America: Moving Beyond Newtown,” Fox and coauthor Monica DeLateur, analyzed research and important statistics to debunk many common myths surrounding mass shootings—many of which were the subject of proposals from the Obama administration and Democrats in the wake of the Newtown massacre.
“Public discourse is grounded in myth and misunderstanding about the nature of the offense and those who perpetrate it,” Fox writes in the journal Homicide Studies, where the research was published. “Without minimizing the pain and suffering of the hundreds of those who have been victimized in recent attacks, the facts clearly say that there has been no increase in mass shootings and certainly no epidemic.”

MOSCOW, Russia -- Three Russian servicemen and four gunmen were killed in a shootout in southern Russia on Wednesday during a sweep for militants ahead of next month's Sochi Winter Olympics.
Russia's National Anti-terrorism Committee (NAC) said the dead gunmen included a man accused of carrying out a car bomb attack in the city of Pyatigorsk late last year which killed three people.
Russia is on high alert following two suicide bombings in southern Russia last month that fueled security concerns before the Olympics, which Islamist militants waging an insurgency in the North Caucasus have threatened to attack.
President Vladimir Putin has staked a lot of personal and political prestige on the success of the Games, which open on February 7, and has put security forces on combat alert in Sochi.
