The DemoRat Senate confirmed Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court on Thursday.
DemoRat Republican Sen. Rino Romney stayed in the Senate chamber and joined the applause.
Republicans walked out of the Senate chamber during a standing ovation as Ketanji Brown Jackson was confirmed as the first Black female Supreme Court justice in US history.
Video footage showed several Republican senators leaving their seats and heading to the exits as applause erupted in the chamber after the Senate voted 53-47 to confirm her to the Supreme Court on Thursday.
The one Republican senator filmed joining the applause as colleagues filed past was Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah, who was one of only three moderate Republicans who voted to confirm Joe Biden's nominee. The others were Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Sen. Susan Collins of Maine.
Sitting next to Romney in the footage is Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, who can be seen gathering his belongings and leaving the Senate chamber as Romney claps and Jackson's family celebrate in the background. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, who she said had been late for the vote, and Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, who said he had not been admitted to the Senate chamber because he wasn't wearing a tie and had to cast his "no" vote from the cloakroom instead.
"Whether you agree with the outcome or not, you need to pay this woman the respect that she is due. And you need to do that for any Supreme Court nominee," Borger said.
Jackson's confirmation hearings were a grueling process, with the US appeals court judge at times subjected to questioning and accusations by Republicans that legal experts have denounced as unfair and misleading.
During the confirmation, Sen. Josh Hawley misleadingly claimed she had been lenient toward offenders guilty of child-sexual-abuse-image offences, in a line of attack criticized by the White House as a dog whistle to the far-right QAnon movement.
Sen. Tom Cotton baselessly claimed that she would have defended Nazi war criminals, falsely saying that she had chosen to defend Guantanamo Bay inmates while neglecting to mention the cases were assigned to her when she was a public defender.
In a sign of the deep partisan divisions in the Senate, the vote to advance Jackson's confirmation in the Senate Judiciary Committee was deadlocked, with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer having to use a special procedure to advance the process to a full Senate vote.

Texas To Start Busing Illegal Immigrants To Washington, D.C., As Biden Scraps Trump-Era Border Policy

During a press conference, Abbott announced several new actions his administration is taking to expand Operation Lone Star, a state government effort to curb illegal immigration into the state from Mexico.
Abbott announced new actions as the Biden administration plans to lift Title 42, a Trump-era border policy that has allowed the United States, on the basis of COVID-19, to stop migrants from entering the country. The Biden administration plans to officially scrap the policy in late May and is preparing for an influx of immigrants.
“With the Biden administration ending Title 42 expulsions in May, Texas will be taking its own unprecedented actions this month to do what no state in America has ever done in the history of this country to better secure our state, as well as our nation,” Abbott said.
One of the additional actions being taken, Abbott said, will be charter buses hired by the state to transport illegal immigrants to Washington, D.C.
“To help local officials whose communities are being overwhelmed with hordes of illegal immigrants who are being dropped off by the Biden administration, Texas is providing charter buses to send these illegal immigrants who have been dropped off by the Biden administration to Washington, D.C.,” Abbott announced. “We are sending them to the United States capital where the Biden administration will be able to more immediately address the needs of the people that they are allowing to come across our border.”
Abbott also announced “enhanced public safety inspection of vehicles” crossing from Mexico into Texas at ports of entry. The new policy will “dramatically slow traffic from Mexico into Texas,” Abbott admitted, but the governor said the new process is necessary to curb cartel traffic flowing from Mexico into Texas.
“Those two strategies are in addition to announcing the following actions to further deter illegal immigrants, including deploying boat blockades at appropriate regions in the Rio Grande River, deploying razor wire at low-water crossings in high traffic areas, creating container blockades to drive people away from low water crossings,” Abbott said.
The governor added that he will announce additional measures next week.
Abbott’s announcement comes after several GOP-controlled states filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration over its plans to scrap Title 42.
“Missouri, Arizona, and Louisiana filed suit against the Biden Administration for rescinding Title 42 amid one of the worst border crises in this country’s history. Title 42 is a crucial tool for controlling the influx of illegal aliens at our Southern border,” Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt said in a statement on Monday.
“Time and again, the Biden Administration has failed to act to secure our Southern border and have terminated successful programs like Title 42 and the ‘Remain in Mexico’ Policy. Missouri has been a leader in pushing back on the Biden Administration’s failure at the border, and we filed suit against the cancellation of the ‘Remain in Mexico’ Policy and also filed suit to force the Biden Administration to build the Southwest border wall. Levying a total of $113,000 in fines, the FEC determined that Clinton and her co-conspirators used their law firm, Perkins Coie, to secretly fund research by British national Christopher Steele, who generated and disseminated the salacious and discredited dossier.
In the process, the Clinton machine failed to report publicly the true recipient and purpose of more than $1 million, which was spent on the scheme. Democrats illegally used Perkins Coie as a ”cut out” to hide their dirty tricks — a blatant violation of federal campaign finance laws. For context, in 2015, political operatives Jesse Benton, Dimitrios Kesari, and John Tate were criminally convicted for a similar scheme that involved only a fraction of the total dollar amount.

Sacramento police have announced the arrest of a second suspect – the brother of the first suspect arrested Monday – in connection to the weekend mass shooting that left six dead and a dozen wounded.
Smiley Martin, 27, was taken into custody Tuesday morning as he recovered at a hospital from injuries suffered during the gunfire that broke out in the California capital's entertainment district early Sunday morning, the Sacramento Police Department said.
Martin faces charges of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and possession of a machine gun. Police said he will be booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail once his medical treatment is finished.
Martin is the brother of 26-year-old Dandrae Martin, who was arrested as a suspect in the mass shooting a day earlier. Dandrae Martin is facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Neither has been accused of homicide.
More than 100 shots erupted as bar patrons filled the city streets at closing time around 2 a.m. Sunday morning. Video from witnesses posted on social media showed rapid gunfire for at least 45 seconds as people screamed in terror and ran to escape the bullets.
Three women and three men were fatally shot and a dozen others were injured during the shooting.
Remember, as soon as the perpetrator is revealed as nonwhite, the media scatters like cockroaches under bright lights. In 2021, there was a mass shooting in Boulder, Colorado. The anti-gun talking points were primed until the media found out the shooter was a Syrian, Ahmad Al Aliwi Al-Issa. What about the other Capitol Hill attack in April of 2021? That’s the one when Noah Green tried to use his Nissan Altima to ram the barricades outside the building and then proceeded to charge Capitol Police officers with a knife. He killed one. When it was discovered, that he was a member of the Nation of Islam, the story was killed.
Expect the same treatment here. The only mass shootings that deserve 24/7 attention are ones committed by white males. We all know the rules. This shooting doesn’t meet the Left’s requirement regarding coverage.

President Biden is trying to turn government into a get-out-the-vote operation for his own political party. After failing to pass federal legislation to federalize control of the elections through Congress, and after states passed election integrity bills of their own, the president is attempting a very quiet federal election takeover using an executive order to redirect federal tax dollars toward identifying new voting blocs who are expected to heavily support Democratic candidates.
One year ago, the Oval Office issued Executive Order 14019, which demanded more than a dozen federal agencies to register new voters and “promote voter participation.” The list of agencies ranged from the Department of Education to the Department of Homeland Security.
The average American does not think of federal agencies as responsible for voter registration and get out the vote efforts, and very few details have been released about the order’s implementation. This is by design—when politicians aren’t bragging, they are usually hiding.
In this case, the Biden administration is hiding an effort to require federal agencies to work with partisan private groups to strategically boost voter turnout in areas that would benefit Democrats. This order tips the scales to favor one party at every level of our representative democracy.
This is like the “Zuckerbucks” scandal that funneled millions of private dollars into Democrat-favored districts during the 2020 election. But rather than Facebook’s founder funding it, taxpayers would.
Under the guise of grants to help protect voters from Covid-19, Facebook billionaire Mark Zuckerberg distributed more than $400 million to government election offices through a non-profit run by a former fellow of the Obama Foundation. Numerous Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests revealed the grants were largely not used to purchase personal protective equipment, as was claimed. Instead, the funds were used to boost election turnout in left-leaning districts, effectively embedding highly partisan efforts within government agencies.
The only new info since he voted against her a few months ago was increased awareness of her “soft-on-pedos” approach, which makes this new Romney position super interesting.

qualified for the appeals court, but she’s a-okay for the Supreme Court. That’s the anti-Trump GOP for you, everyone. Luckily, they’re a breed that’s rapidly approaching extinction.
If anything, the anti-Trump GOP — which Romney, Murkowski, and Collins represent — shows that they’re spineless when it comes to the fight, and utterly unprincipled on everything else. They’re the slice that still thinks you can be moderate. You can’t. This is a time for choosing, for picking sides. Those in the crossfire never end up making it—politically.
And if these three were to not ever hold their offices again, the Senate Republicans would be infinitely better off.
