Pastor Mark Burns of South Carolina was visiting the White House and President Donald Trump when he discovered a large spider crawling up the president’s back. Burns, along with other evangelical leaders, joined Trump in the White House on Monday to present him with an award for recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.  Things, however, went awry.

“A spider almost ate him,” Burns told The Washington Post, and proceeded to explain a bizarre story involving the venomous creature. According to the Post, Burns — who told the Post that he despises spiders — noticed a half-dollar sized white spider crawling up the president’s back. Jumping into action, Burns whacked the spider with his bare hand — and subsequently, Trump’s back — much to the shock of everyone present in the room.

“[The smack] made such a loud noise, and I think people were bewildered and were like, ‘What did you just do?'” Burns told the Post. Burns quickly explained the contact and said, “Security, please don’t shoot me! He had a spider on his back.”

According to Burns, Trump remained calm throughout the ordeal and asked, “Well, did you kill the spider?”
