If you thought Joe Biden’s answer yesterday when asked by George Stephanopoulos what he would say to people who believed Tara Reade was a garbled mess, wait until you see Chuck Schumer’s.
Before we get to Schumer’s, here’s a quick recap of the question that was asked and how Biden answered (bolded emphasis added within the quotes):
Stephanopoulos: “On these allegations from Tara Reade, I know you deny them, but you’ve also said that women should be believed. So what do you say to Americans who believe Tara Reade and won’t vote for you because of it?”
Biden: “Well, that’s their right. Look here, look, I think women should be believed. They should have an opportunity to have their case and state it just forthrightly, what their case is. Then it’s the responsibility of responsible journalists like you and everyone else to go out and investigate those. The end of the day, the truth is the truth. That’s what should prevail. And the truth is this never happened. This never happened, I assure you. That’s the truth.”
“Women should be believed” except when they accuse Joe Biden or something. You really have to watch the video of him saying it to get the full effect:
.@JoeBiden to @GStephanopoulos on Tara Reade: "I think women should be believed. They should have an opportunity to have their case...then it's the responsibility of responsible journalists like you and everyone else to go out and investigate those."
“Before the #MeToo movement, women were not listened to [by] who they were telling what had happened to them. Since #MeToo, women are listened to,” Schumer said Tuesday when asked about whether he believes Biden accuser Tara Reade.
“Now I’ve heard Joe Biden’s explanation. I think it’s sufficient,” Schumer said. “I think he will be a great candidate. I think he will be a great president. And I think he will help us take back the Senate.”
