Man Arrested In West Palm Beach For Posting Memes To Sway 2016 Election   Florida News  By Joel Malkin  Jan 28, 2021

West Palm Beach man was arrested Wednesday for his alleged role in a scheme to sway the 2016 election by duping supporters of one candidate into casting invalid ballots.

31 year old Douglass Mackey used several social media accounts under the name "Ricky Vaughn," according to court documents, to "disseminate misinformation designed to deprive individuals of their constitutional right to vote."

Neither of the 2016 candidates, Donald Trump nor Hillary Clinton, was named in the complaint as the one whom Mackey was allegedly trying to help win the presidency.

But the New York Times reports that Clinton was the candidate who Mackey allegedly sought to deprive of votes.

According to prosecutors, the man posted memes on Twitter that falsely claimed supporters of Clinton that they could vote by sending a text message to a specific number and that at least 4,900 unique phone numbers did that exact thing.

Mackey was released on $50,000 bond.
