The federal prosecutor investigating Hunter Biden reportedly kept the probe under wraps following pressure from officials to not alert the public during a presidential election.
Politico reports that the investigation into the President’s son’s taxes had advanced to the point “where prosecutors could have sought search warrants and issued a flurry of grand jury subpoenas” over the summer.
They reveal that some officials involved with the case wanted to move forward while others insisted the timing would be unwise to do so.
“They advised Delaware’s U.S. Attorney, David Weiss, to avoid taking any actions that could alert the public to the existence of the case in the middle of a presidential election,” they write.
Politico goes on to note that Weiss, according to one source, “listened” and averted “the possibility that the investigation would become a months-long campaign issue.”
