- PM Justin Trudeau invoked the country's Emergencies Act on Monday afternoon
- The Canadian Civil Liberties Association said the government had not met the standard for invoking the Emergencies Act
- Tucker Carlson also blasted its invocation, saying Trudeau had vastly overstepped the mark
- The act is intended to deal with threats to 'sovereignty, security and territorial integrity,' the group said
- Premiers of Alberta, Manitoba, Quebec, and Saskatchewan spoke out opposing Trudeau's extraordinary plan
- The officials, who are the Canadian equivalent of state governors, called the plan a dangerous overreach
- The 1988 Emergencies Act allows the federal government to override the provinces with special measures
- Previously known as the the War Measures Act, has been used only once before in peacetime
