Mississippi's state flag didn't last long on Broad Street in South Philadelphia.

City workers on Monday removed the red, white, and blue banner - which has the Confederate flag in the top left corner - from a lighting standard near Passyunk Avenue after dozens of protesters and some local residents asked for it to be taken down, city officials said.
It had been put up about two weeks ago among a collection of state flags on South Broad. It won't be put up again, said Brian Abernathy, a deputy managing director for the city, who said, "The Confederate flag raises strong feelings in our city."

Posts on social media showed a raucous reception when a man in a cherry picker pulled the flag down Monday afternoon. Protesters, some of whom had gathered around the flag demanding its removal, chanted: "Whose streets? Our streets!"

If Mississippians were upset about the decision, they weren't easy to find in Philadelphia.
Ouida Meruvia, a spokeswoman for the Mississippi Democratic Party, said the state's delegation fully agreed with the city's decision. In fact, she said, the delegation had removed a flag placard designating where they sit on the convention floor for the same reasons.
"The Democratic Party in Mississippi does not advocate the Mississippi flag," she said. "A lot of delegates have come out against it."
Curley Clark, a Hillary Clinton delegate and president of the Jackson County, Miss., NAACP, said the flag was "an affront to the descendants of slaves" and "should be changed."
Meruvia said Monday's action by Philadelphia police and the Mayor's Office, "speaks to the national reaction about our flag and what we've been talking about."

Donald Trump on WTO: US Could Leave Over Offshore Production

Donald Trump criticized the World Trade Organization (WTO) on Sunday for standing in the way of his plans to levy penalties on companies that move production offshore, saying the U.S. could leave the organization if he becomes president.

In an interview that aired on NBC's "Meet the Press" with host Chuck Todd. Trump, whose criticism of American companies taking jobs overseas has been a major talking point in his campaign, said he wants to levy a tax against those businesses.Trump made his threat to pull out of the WTO during
"It could be 25 percent. It could be 35 percent. It could be 15 percent," Trump said of the tax against the companies on the show. "I haven't determined. And it could be different for different companies. We have been working on trying to stop this government, because we don't know what we're doing."
Trump remarked that the government doesn't know what it's doing, that it's failed: "They've tried lower interest loans, they've tried zero interest loans ..."

When Todd pointed out that Trump's levy "may not get through the World Trade Organization," Trump balked.
"It doesn't matter," Trump said on "Meet the Press." "Then we're going to renegotiate or we're going to pull out. These trade deals are a disaster, Chuck. The World Trade Organization is a disaster."
On Friday, Roberto Azevêdo, the director-general of the WTO, criticized what he called Trump's "anti-trade rhetoric" during an interview on CNBC.
"(World trade) is still sluggish and the problem is this new anti-trade rhetoric, anti-globalization rhetoric," Azevêdo told CNBC. "It doesn't help because it may spell what is to come in terms of policies, so that is definitely bad news."

The Wall Street Journal said such a move could void deals the U.S. has for lower tariffs for its goods with countries globally, leading to increased prices of exported American products. The Journal added that such a departure would make it more difficult for the U.S. to challenge alleged rule-breaking WTO members like China and getting compensation.
The Journal noted Hillary Clinton has said Trump's actions on international trade could cause a trade war.

Trump's comments on the WTO comes on the heels of him solidifying his stance on NATO last week, saying that the U.S. would consider a member's contribution to the alliance before deciding whether to come to its aid if attacked, reported The New York Times.
The Times wrote that while Trump's suggestion would be a first for the U.S. in regard to aiding NATO allies, it was consistent with his previous threat to withdraw American forces from Europe and Asia if those countries fail to pay more for American protection.

President Barack Obama's half-brother, Malik Obama, says he will vote for Republican nominee Donald Trump in the U.S. election in November because he likes the candidate and he is unhappy with his brother's leadership.

Malik, who is in his 50s, told Reuters by phone from Obama's ancestral home of Kogelo in western Kenya that he supports Trump's policies, especially his focus on security.

"He appeals to me and also I think that he is down to earth and he speaks from the heart and he is not trying to be politically correct. He's just straight-forward," he said.

Malik, a U.S. citizen, has lived in Washington since 1985 where he worked with various firms before becoming an independent financial consultant.

Trump's stance against Muslims coming in to the United States was understandable even to Muslims like himself, Malik said.

When Donald Trump tweeted after Bernie Sanders' speech that Sanders "totally sold out to Crooked Hillary Clinton. All of that work, energy and money, and nothing to show for it! Waste of time!" he was exactly half right. Maybe you'll quibble with the verb, but Sanders did capitulate to Hillary Clinton. But he sure as hell didn't sell out for nothing.

 

He sold out, and Clinton changed her position on the Trans-Pacific Partnership as a result, probably dooming that trade bill, a signature piece of President Obama's second-term foreign policy agenda.

He sold out, and the Democrats changed their superdelegate rules, binding a much larger percentage of them to the popular vote winners of state contests. At a minimum, this means that establishment candidates will be forced to organize more heavily at a lower level of politics in more states in the future.

Sen. Bernie Sanders has called for DNC Chair Debbie Schultz’s resignation after WikiLeaks released nearly 20,000 emails that showed how much corruption there was on the inside.

Schultz is now no longer speaking in a major role at the Dem. Convention in Philly.
Also, emails showed that Hillary Clinton was the only candidate the DNC decided to back, leaving Bernie practically ostracized.

The release of Democratic National Committee emails by WikiLeaks Friday reveals that DNC officials planned anti-Donald Trump protests.
In multiple emails, DNC officials signed off and acknowledged the existence of two anti-Donald Trump protests in South Bend, IN and Billings, MT. The release of nearly 20,000 emails is the first in a WikiLeaks “Hillary Leaks” series.
On April 29, a DNC press staffer, Rachel Palermo, alerted Eric Walker, deputy communications director, about a Facebook page for an anti-Trump protest on May 2 in South Bend. “Whoo! Thanks to our interns for finding this out.” Walker replies, “I like it, as long as the students feel safe getting involved. I imagine this demo will be nicer than the one in San Fran today.”
That day in San Francisco protesters blocked off roads to an event Donald Trump was hosting. The Republican nominee ended up having jump down from the highway and sneak around back to enter.
In another other email chain also on April 29, titled “Week-Ahead Notes & Assignments,” former DNC media booker Pablo Manriquez comments “this should be fun” in reference to the May protest.
University of Notre Dame, located in South Bend, is Manriquez’s alma mater. A DNC official wrote, “Pablo please reach out to any folks you think may be able to help.”
Another protest that’s directly mentioned in emails included one that occurred on May 26 in Billings, MT. The email is from May 20 and features notes on the “week ahead.”

Just all in a day’s work for the corrupt people in Washington.

On the campaign trail, Hillary Clinton has praised mandatory gun confiscation in Australia and Great Britain. During her husband's time in the White House, Clinton called for a $2500
