LAS VEGAS — A judge in Las Vegas has decided to dismiss criminal charges against a Nevada rancher and his sons accused of leading an armed uprising against federal authorities in 2014.
Chief U.S. District Judge Gloria Navarro signaled when she declared a mistrial last month that she might dismiss the case outright against 71-year-old Cliven Bundy, sons Ryan and Ammon Bundy, and Montana militia leader Ryan Payne.
The judge severely criticized prosecutors for what she called "willful" violations of due process rights of defendants, including failing to properly turn over evidence to their lawyer. But she gave the government a chance to submit written documents opposing dismissal of all charges.
The Monday decision is sure to reverberate among states' rights advocates in the Western U.S., where the federal government controls vast lands that some people want to protect and others want used for grazing, mining and oil and gas drilling.
The tense armed standoff outside Bunkerville, about 80 miles (129 kilometers) northeast of Las Vegas, stopped a federal Bureau of Land Management roundup of Bundy cattle from public land including what is now Gold Butte National Monument. About three dozen heavily armed federal agents guarding corrals in a dry riverbed faced hundreds of flag-waving men, women and children calling for the release of some 400 cows.
The cattle had been rounded up under court orders issued over Bundy letting his herd graze for 20 years without paying government fees.
No shots were fired before the outnumbered and outgunned federal agents withdrew.
Several gunmen among the protesters who had assault-style rifles were acquitted of criminal charges in two trials last year.
Ryan and Ammon Bundy also were acquitted of federal criminal charges in Oregon after an armed occupation in early 2016 of a national wildlife refuge to demand the government turn over public land to local control.
Payne awaits sentencing in that case but is trying to withdraw his guilty plea to a felony conspiracy charge that is expected to bring a sentence of more than three years in prison.
In Las Vegas, Navarro declared a mistrial Dec. 20, leaving Cliven Bundy as the only one of the four defendants still jailed after refusing the judge's offer of release to house arrest.

Michelle’s Furious! Jets To Hawaii After Discovering Woman Who’ll End Barack’s Career January 2, 2018Rebecca DiserioPolitics, U.S. News
Michelle Obama is furious after discovering the identity of the woman who will end Barack’s career for good. The former first lady jetted to Hawaii after insiders warned her that an explosion is about to come down on her husband’s head. Michelle has known all along about this woman, but she was hoping the sordid details would stay hidden. Now, she is protecting herself and distancing herself from Barack as fast as she can.
Her name is Evelyn Farkas, and she first came to national attention back in March 2017. Farkas was the former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Russia/Ukraine/Eurasia under Barack Obama. She is the direct link proving Obama knew of and approved the illegal wiretapping of a candidate for president, Donald Trump, and she is the direct link proving Obama also knew about and approved of the “insurance policy” to get Trump impeached by using a fake investigation that relied on a fake “Russian dossier” to find him guilty of collusion with Russia to subvert our democratic process.

Trump Slams Crooked Hillary’s Aide Huma Abedin Over Newest Controversy Published on January 2, 2018
Crooked Hillary Clinton’s top aid, Huma Abedin, has been accused of disregarding basic security protocols. She put Classified Passwords into the hands of foreign agents. Remember sailors pictures on submarine? Jail! Deep State Justice Dept must finally act? Also on Comey & others
....................................................................................
Trump was referring to U.S. Navy Sailor Kristian Saucier, who was put in prison for taking unauthorized photos inside a nuclear submarine. He seemed to suggest a double standard is at play, compared with the lack of punishment for Clinton and her aides.
The president’s tweet comes after the State Department, in a Friday news dump, released a batch of emails from Abedin’s account that were discovered by the FBI on a laptop belonging to her estranged husband, Anthony Weiner. At least four of the documents were marked “classified.”

FINALLY...............He is not backing down...
President Trump's former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, has filed a lawsuit challenging the authority of special counsel Robert Mueller.
In a court filing, lawyers for Manafort argue that the order establishing Mueller's investigation is overly broad and not permitted under Justice Department regulations.
They said the special counsel's actions are "arbirtray, capricious and not in accordance with the law" and have asked a district court to set aside "all actions" that Mueller has taken against Manafort.
“The investigation of Mr. Manafort is completely unmoored from the Special Counsel’s original jurisdiction to investigate ‘any links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of President Donald Trump,’ ” the complaint reads.
“It has instead focused on unrelated, decade-old business dealings—specifically, Ukraine political campaign consulting activities of Mr. Manafort.”The lawsuit was filed against Mueller, the Justice Department and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein who gave the order last year that launched the special counsel investigation.
Manafort pleaded not guilty to multiple criminal counts in October, including conspiracy against the United States and money laundering related to his work for a pro-Russia political party in Ukraine.
A spokesperson for the Justice Department fired back at the suit.
"The lawsuit is frivolous but the defendant is entitled to file whatever he wants."

Carson Wentz defends bird hunting after social media reaction

Injured Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz thought he was posting an innocent enough photo, wishing happy birthday to his beautiful dog.
But since he did it on Twitter, he should have known better.
On Monday, Wentz posted then-and-now photos of his dog, writing, “Happy 5th Birthday to Mama Henley! We’ve been through a lot in 5 years. Best dog and hunting buddy I could ask for!”

As you can see, the picture of Mama Henley now has her proudly posing in front of a stack of birds, presumably ones she and Wentz caught together.
Which of course led to at least one person noting that the photo with the birds, “might cause offence” from someone in an influential position.
But Wentz wouldn’t hear it.
“Appreciate that, but offensive and controversial? Two of the main things I tweet about are Jesus and hunting. That’s what I’m passionate about and that won’t ever change!,” Wentz replied. “When you love something, you talk about it! Stay convicted about it and don’t worry what others think!”
As NBC Sports Philadelphia notes, some states, like Arkansas, encourage the killing of certain “nuisance birds” like light geese that harm farms and destroy habitats for other animals.
Wentz tore his ACL last month, dealing the Eagles’ playoff hopes a huge blow. Carson and his older brother, Zach, have their own YouTube channel, “Wentz Bros Outdoors,” where they post videos of their hunting exploits.

Comey drafted Clinton exoneration before finishing investigation, GOP senators say READ ON
Trump: ‘Deep State’ DOJ ‘Must Finally Act’ Against Abedin, Comey
The Justice Department “must finally act” against a longtime senior aide to Hillary Clinton and former FBI Director James Comey, President Donald Trump tweeted, his latest fiery social media post to kick off 2018.
Trump and his team have an ambitious agenda for the new year, especially considering more than 400 House seats and 30 Senate seats are up for grabs in just 11 months. But the president on Tuesday focused his morning tweets at his domestic political and geopolitical foes.
In one tweet, Trump targeted Clinton confidant Huma Abedin, Comey and the Justice Department, which has frustrated the chief executive with its investigation of possible ties between the Kremlin and his 2016 presidential campaign.
He wrote that “Crooked Hillary Clinton’s top aid [sic], Huma Abedin” allegedly violated security protocols, an apparent reference to her handling of State Department emails when Clinton ran that agency for former President Barack Obama. Trump charged on Tuesday that Abedin “put Classified Passwords into the hands of foreign agents.”
It was not immediately clear to what the president was referring, but conservative websites and Fox News in recent days have posted items stating that Abedin forwarded State Department passwords to a Yahoo account before many were hacked.
What should be Abedin’s punishment? “Jail!” Trump wrote before Abedin has been investigated, charged, tried, convicted or sentenced.
