Somalia has about 1,000 surviving Christians. And that’s a challenge in a country where everyone is either in an Islamic militia or trying to move to the United States to sponge off welfare and plot terrorist bombings

In 2009, four Christian orphanage workers were beheaded for refusing to convert to Islam. Now Somalia has gotten enough of its act together to ban Christmas.

The Somali Government has banned celebration of Christian festivities in the country.
The Director General of the ministry, Sheikh Mohamed Khayrow Aden, and the Director of the Religious Matters, Sheikh Ali Sheikh Mohamud alias Sheikh Ali Dhere, held a press conference in the capital Mogadishu, to make the announcement.
“We alert fellow Muslims in Somalia that some festivities to mark Christian Days will take place around the world in this week,” said Sheikh Ali Dhere during the press conference, adding: “It is prohibited to celebrate those days in this country.”        FULL STORY

Much like today, no-one wanted to go to New Jersey, but were forced by circumstances to make the arduous trek. Washington’s force of 2,400 men surprised, and ultimately defeated, the 1,400 Hessian mercenaries who were fighting on behalf of the British Crown. A much needed win was tallied under the Patriot’s side of the scoreboard, emboldening the Continental Army and our quest for freedom.

The historical event is worth a few minutes of recollection as we trudge toward 2014 with an increasingly apparent devolution of freedom in America. After all, in the days of our founding, a simple tax on our breakfast beverage resulted in massive protests in Boston Harbor – and ultimately a few gunshots. Our founders were tired of being ruled by a body of “representatives” hundreds of miles away. They were fed up with the dictatorial nature of King George’s executive action, and disregard for individual property rights. Imagine living in a land where one man in the executive branch could unilaterally alter law… It’s not that hard to imagine, is it?

Sure, King George never shoved universal healthcare down the throats of our Patriot founders; but he did enact taxes, regulation, and tariffs, with little more than a stroke of a pen. (No word, yet, on how often he decided to play golf.)

DARTBAG: CBS Chicago scrubs article noting Sheriff is now carrying a gun, a right he wants to deny citizens

CBS Chicago posted an article yesterday noting that Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart was now carrying a gun, something that the Chicago politician pretending to be a law enforcement officer had not done previously.
The URL to the story is now dead, but Google’s cache is forever.

It is not unusual for a sheriff to be carrying a gun. In fact, it would be expected in some places.
But when Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart recently started carrying one on his belt, it was a bit unusual.
So WBBM’s Mike Krauser asked him about it.
Dart – a former state lawmaker known for policy as much as anything else — said he’s been getting some unwanted attention, unfortunately.
The sheriff has had his life threatened.
“It’s been impressed upon me that I have five little kids, and I need to be around a bit,” Dart says. “So, I can’t just cavalierly just blow everything off.”
“It’s a little bit of a wake-up call, unfortunately,” he added. “I have no delusions of my abilities.”
The gun goes with the job, he says.

So Tom Dart thinks he’s the only special snowflake worth protecting in Chicago; all the other fathers and mothers  in the murder capital of the United States simply aren’t as worthy. This is the same jerk actively seeking to block citizens from legally carrying concealed, even though they are legally required to have more training than he probably does.
If I were Dart, I’d want the story scrubbed, too.
Blatant hypocrisy is never attractive.

MOSCOW -- The leader of an Islamist insurgency has called on militants to "do everything possible" to prevent the upcoming Winter Olympics in the Russian city of Sochi.
Chechen rebel leader Doku Umarov also accused Russian authorities of showing little respect for Muslim traditions.

MOSCOW -- The organizing committee for Russia’s Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics said Thursday it was "not really concerned" that President Barack Obama would not be attending the event.
Sochi will be the first games since 2000 not attended by a U.S. president, first lady, or vice president. Obama said his decision not to go was due to a busy schedule in Washington, but it has come against a backdrop of increased tensions with Moscow.
Asked if Obama's decision to stay away was a concern, Head of Russian Olympic Committee Alexander Zhukov told NBC News: "The Olympic Games are the competition of outstanding sportsmen and this is the main reason why they are interesting.
"It's not a summit, which only the country leaders attend. So we’re not really concerned about it."

Disgruntled atheists first filed suit over the memorial at a veterans park in San Diego in the summer of 1989. The fringe grievance-mongers have clung bitterly to their litigious activities for nearly a quarter-century. It's time to let go and bring peace to the city.
The historic 43-foot cross has stood atop Mount Soledad on public land since 1954. The Mount Soledad Memorial Association erected the monument to commemorate the sacrifice of American soldiers who died in the Korean War, World War I and World War II. The cross has long carried meaning for the city's residents far beyond religious symbolism. "It's a symbol of coming of age and of remembrance," Pastor Mark Slomka of the Mount Soledad Presbyterian Church said years ago when the case erupted. 54 square metres of mirrors have been installed on a mountain in Norway to light up a little village at the bottom of a narrow valley.

The village of Rjukan in Norway has a bit of a problem – for six months of the year, the mountain above stops the winter sun reaching its 3,500 inhabitants. This has been going on for a century, ever since a local factory decided to found the little village to take advantage of the nearby waterfalls. But the curse on Rjukan has now been broken once and for all. A few weeks ago, the sun’s rays finally managed to penetrate its narrow streets. This mini-miracle was almost entirely due to the tireless work of one Martin Andersen, a Norwegian artist who spent years promoting a rather crazy idea – putting mirrors on the 400 metre-high mountain ridge to reflect the light that the villagers so desperately needed. After months of work, three mirrors covering a surface of 51 square metres are now finally in place above Rjukan. The whole operation cost 610,000 euros – not an insignificant investment, but one that the village mayor reckons has already largely paid for itself in the boost to tourism generated by publicity.

Earthquake? No...Frost Quake!

Well.....You learn something new every day, no matter how old you are. In all my years I never heard of this. What makes it personal is I have family living in N Y , right on the shores of Lake Ontario and they are in the midst of the results of an ice storm and are experiencing these "booms".

It was the heaviest burst of violence in the volatile area since November 2012, when Israel and Hamas' rulers engaged in eight days of heavy fighting. The sudden flare-up threatened a cease-fire that halted that fighting and which largely has held up for the past 13 months.
"I recommend to Hamas not to test our patience and to assert its authority," Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon said. "If there isn't quiet in Israel, there won't be quiet in the Gaza Strip

Drunken woman enters elephant pen at Denver Zoo, gets electric shock: cops

An “extremely intoxicated” woman was taken to the hospital late Tuesday after entering the elephant pen at Denver Zoo and receiving a shock from an electric fence, police and officials said.
The incident happened at about 9 p.m. local time during the attraction’s annual Zoo Lights holiday event, the zoo said in a statement to NBC affiliate 9News.
“No animals were in the yard at the time,” said the statement, which described the woman as “disoriented.”

“The woman was transported for medical care. Denver police and Denver Zoo are talking to guests to determine what happened,” it said.
The Denver Fire Department told the Denver Post newspaper that woman received a shock from an electric fence, and 9News said she was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

In a post on its Twitter feed, the Denver Police Department said: “No electrocution. Extremely intoxicated female entered elephant pen at zoo & sat down next to electrical wires.”

NSA leaker Edward Snowden: 'Mission's already accomplished'

In an interview, former NSA contractor Edward Snowden declared victory after federal recommendations were made for more oversight on an NSA intelligence gathering program. Snowden dismissed charges that he violated his agreement not to disclose classified information.  NBC's Peter Alexander reports.

National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden said his "mission's already accomplished" and spoke of having “personal satisfaction” at the revelations about U.S. surveillance policies in an interview published Tuesday.

The former intelligence contractor, who exposed extensive details of global electronic surveillance by the U.S. spy agency, said he was not being disloyal to the U.S. or to his former employer.

"I am not trying to bring down the NSA, I am working to improve the NSA," he told The Washington Post. "I am still working for the NSA right now. They are the only ones who don't realize it."

It is the first full interview with Snowden, now 30, since he arrived in Moscow in June in a dramatic bid to evade prosecution by authorities in the U.S., where he is charged with espionage and felony theft of government property.

He has been granted temporary asylum by Russia, and remains at an undisclosed location, but his long-term future status remains unclear.

Mystery illness claims more bald eagles in Utah

The Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Northern Utah has been caring for sick bald eagles since the beginning of the month, each of them succumbing to a mystery illness.

Something is killing bald eagles in Utah, and wildlife officials are scrambling to diagnose the mysterious illness before it spreads. 
At least 16 bald eagles in Utah have died since the beginning of the month, with another rescued bird likely facing the same puzzling fate, wildlife officials said Tuesday.
About half of the bald eagles identified since Dec. 1 were discovered dead, while the other half died or were euthanized at rehabilitation centers.
A lab in Madison, Wis., is conducting blood work and toxicology screenings, the results of which may not be available for a couple of weeks, said DaLyn Erickson-Marthaler, executive director of the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Northern Utah.
