update---HE WAS WHITE

San Francisco Police Kill Suspect Who Pulled Air Gun
Officers shot and killed a man who brandished what appeared to be a handgun but was actually an air gun after they told him to leave a restricted parking lot outside a San Francisco police station.
Police hit the 32-year-old man three times Sunday evening after he pulled from his waistband what was later determined to be an air gun, which fire metallic projectiles such as pellets or BBs, police spokesman Albie Esparza said.
The man was transported to San Francisco General Hospital, where he later died of his wounds. The officers were not injured.
The air gun did not have a colored tip on it, which is a standard identifier of a toy gun, Officer Gordon Shyy said Monday. He declined to discuss any other details of the case.
San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr said Monday that his department, like police across the nation, has heightened concern for officer safety following the ambush killings of two New York City police officers.

I understand, the man should not have pulled the air gun and I understand the cops are on edge over shootings and being shot at.......BUT.......AN AIR GUN IS NOT A TOY, SO...NO REASON TO HAVE AN ORANGE TIP. Some pellet guns are powerful and can shoot "hunting ammo". They are not DEADLY to a human but can be to an animal such as a rabbit. I did read recently of a man having a brightly colored gun, WHICH WAS REAL! I know you can get guns "powder coated" in many colors [pink for the ladies] So... that little ORANGE tip isn't going to make much of a difference. Police need to look at age, situation, and their 6th sense BEFORE shooting someone...
