One of two unattended backpacks found and detonated by police Tuesday near the Boston Marathon finish line was left by a New England Cable News crew while the other was likely a hoax act by a man who is now in custody. Police stopped a barefoot man who was carrying what appeared to be a rice cooker in his backpack, Deputy Police Superintendent Randall Halstead said at a news briefing, NBC News reported. The suspect faces charges of disorderly conduct, possession of a hoax device and disturbing the peace, NECN reported. NECN's general manager said the bag belonging to the station had contained cables and was left when the scene was quickly evacuated. "The NECN crew cooperated while asking officers several times if they could get their bag back," Mike St. Peter said. "Because of the ongoing investigation, police denied access. Once the scene was cleared, the crew picked up the remains of the bag."
