A Ferguson police sergeant tells USA Today that the department had to call in additional departments for aid after a large crowd threw rocks and bottles at officers.
Eight people were arrested and charged with failure to disperse and resisting arrest.
Meanwhile, police in Ferguson are hunting for suspects who shot two different officers in apparently unrelated incidents.
On Saturday, a police officer checking out a suspected robbery was shot in the arm. He has since been treated and released from the hospital but the shooter is still at large.
The officer was doing a routine patrol of the area and spotted someone behind a community center. He went to investigate and the suspect took off. During the chase, the suspect turned and fired multiple shots at the officer. The officer returned fire but it’s unclear if the suspect was hit.
Three hours later, an off-duty police officer was fired on while he was in his car and suffered injuries from shattered glass. It’s unclear if the officer was targeted or was randomly shot. The officer did not return fire.
“It’s unclear at this time if the officer was targeted or if this was a random act of violence,” county police said.
