The Department of Justice’s Inspector General Michael Horowitz announced an investigation into the handling of the criminal inquiry of Hillary Clinton’s email scandal.
But one official’s conduct is escaping scrutiny.
And it’s causing everyone to ask some serious questions.
When Attorney General Loretta Lynch spoke with former President Bill Clinton on her government airplane – just days before FBI Director James Comey announced he wasn’t recommending charges be brought against the former Secretary of State – many saw their meeting as a sign the investigation was a sham.
Critics believed Lynch could have been giving Bill Clinton a heads up on the status of the investigation or other inside information.
But her suspicious conduct will not be part of the Justice Department review.
And some Republicans are ripping that decision.
Politico reported:
“One Republican, however, said the investigation was not broad enough, protesting the Horowitz did not plan to investigate the role played by Attorney General Loretta Lynch, who became the subject of controversy after her tarmac meeting with former President Bill Clinton just days before Comey made his initial recommendation public.
“It’s good to hear that the Inspector General agreed to my request to look at multiple concerns that I raised throughout the investigation,” said Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley said in a Thursday statement. “Conspicuously absent, though, is any specific reference to the Attorney General’s failure to recuse herself from the probe, particularly after her meeting with former President Clinton. It’s in the public interest to provide a full accounting of all the facts that led to the FBI and Justice Department’s decision-making regarding the investigation.”
Some critics contend the Justice Department is using the investigation to further delegitimize President-elect Trump.
While the conduct of some officials which benefited Clinton is under review – such as high-ranking Justice Department official Patrick Kadzik emailing Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta with updates of the case – the media focus will be Director Comey’s decision to write a letter to Congress informing them the Bureau had discovered more Clinton emails on a laptop belonging to ex-Congressman Anthony Weiner.
Democrats regarded this move as the deciding factor in the election and have been hounding Comey ever since.
Michael Horowitz – the Justice Department Inspector General who is conducting the review – is an Obama appointee, and many critics believe this inquiry will officially rebuke Director Comey for keeping with his word to inform Congress if any new developments arose in the Clinton email scandal.
But Lynch’s conduct was roundly criticized.
Even Democrats blasted her decision.
Former Obama chief strategist David Axelrod tweeted his disapproval.
And Delaware Senator Chris Coons criticized her meeting with former President Clinton.

CBS News reported:
“Sen. Chris Coons, D-Delaware, said in an interview on CNN that she should have told the former president, “‘Look, I recognize you have a long record of leadership on fighting crime but this is not the time for us to have that conversation. After the election is over, I’d welcome your advice.'”
Yet her conduct is not under review.
Which leads many to believe the Justice Department’s review is designed to paint Comey’s conduct as unethical so Democrats can continue to harp on Trump winning a “tainted” election.
