Andrew McCarthy, a conservative scholar and former assistant U.S. attorney, revealed on Fox & Friends his belief that prosecutors will indict the president for campaign finance violations. (Mediaite)

“It’s clear that Trump is the target and that he’ll be indicted eventually,” McCarthy said.

“That kind of stops me in my tracks,” Fox News host Ed Henry reacted.
McCarthy explained himself in an op-ed published last night:

“The major takeaway from the 40-page sentencing memorandum filed by federal prosecutors Friday for Michael Cohen, President Trump’s former personal attorney, is this: The president is very likely to be indicted on a charge of violating federal campaign finance laws,” McCarthy wrote.

While McCarthy pointed out that Justice Department guidance says a sitting president can’t be indicted, Trump could face charges when he leaves office. And while campaign finance violations are not typically considered the sorts of “high crimes and misdemeanors” that would raise the specter of impeachment, “the point for this day is that the Cohen case in New York City is not about Cohen. The president is in peril of being charged.”
