DOJ Stopped Talking With Trump After Raiding His Home

(PresidentialHill.com)- After the FBI raided the former president’s home in Mar-a-Lago in early August, court filings submitted by his lawyers allege that the Department of Justice never reached out to them after the event, according to The Epoch Times.

His lawyers claim that it has never before been the case that a movant, the party making a motion before a court, has not been contacted by the DOJ, further prompting criticism that the agency is behaving in a partisan, untrustful way.

“All of this in the context of a unilateral filter team operation that to-date has never made any contact with counsel for the Movant, another historic first for DOJ,” the filing stated.

The filing comes after the DOJ tried to argue that a special master, or neutral third-party, was not needed for the review of the alleged classified materials that the FBI confiscated during their raid. Prosecutors said that the DOJ “filter team” already carried out that task.

The government tried to argue against having a third-party review its investigation, arguing that it would impede their “ongoing criminal investigation and—if the special master were tasked with reviewing classified documents—would impede the Intelligence Community from conducting its ongoing review of the national security risk that improper storage of these highly sensitive materials may have caused and from identifying measures to rectify or mitigate any damage that improper storage caused.”

The same filing includes a photo that the DOJ took of alleged classified material scattered on the floor found at Trump’s residence, labeled “TOP SECRET.” Trump took to social media to say that the picture appeared to be staged, and then accused the DOJ and FBI of deception.

“There seems to be confusion as to the ‘picture’ where documents were sloppily thrown on the floor and then released photographically for the world to see, as if that’s what the FBI found when they broke into my home,” the former president wrote on Truth Social. “Wrong! They took them out of cartons and spread them around on the carpet, making it look like a big ‘find’ for them.”

Trump then went on to say that his lawyers were not able to witness what they were doing, but that they were told to wait outside. His lawyers further claim that the FBI forcefully entered the residence with bookbags and demanded that the cameras in the home be shut off.
