When Robert F. Kennedy eulogized the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. in Cleveland: Kerry Kennedy (Opinion)

By Guest Columnist/cleveland.com

NEW YORK -- My father hadn't launched his historic run for the White House when the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. arrived at Ohio Northern University on Jan. 11, 1968 - just four days before King's 39th birthday. Yet Robert F. Kennedy shared King's moral clarity on the need for racial, economic and social justice, and that informed him as he prepared for the monumental undertaking of running for president.
In his Ohio speech 50 years ago, King challenged the most insidious of segregation's lies: that blacks were less suitable citizens than other races. King's remarks framed a society where many viewed black Americans as less intelligent, less patriotic and more violent than whites. The biggest impediment to equality wasn't some imagined racial inferiority, King said, but the societal institutions perpetuating division and low expectations. Policy solutions met with foot-dragging from (white) leaders who said, "You can't legislate morality."
Power, as it does, resists change.

When Trump was elected, I wished with all my heart that he would get Trey Gowdy as his Attorney General....NO SUCH LUCK ! !

SC’s Gowdy resigns from Ethics role in Congress because of
‘challenging wor
kload’  January 14, 2018 09:04 PM  By Noah Feit nfeit@thestate.com

U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy said the workload was too much.                             That was the reason the South Carolina Republican gave House Speaker Paul Ryan when he resigned his position from the House Ethics Committee.
Gowdy represents the 4th District of South Carolina, which includes Greenville and Spartanburg Counties. He has been a member of the U.S. House of Representatives since 2011.
Gowdy was recently named chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. He also is a member of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and Judiciary Committee.
“When I became Chairperson of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform I knew I would not be able to keep all other committee assignments to include Judiciary, Intelligence and Ethics. Four committee assignments, including a Chairmanship, is a challenging workload,” Gowdy wrote in his letter to Ryan.
Gowdy made his name grilling Hillary Clinton over the 2012 attack on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya. Gowdy worked as a federal prosecutor from 1994 to 2000 in South Carolina and served as a district attorney before entering Congress in 2011.
Trey Gowdy’s letter to Paul Ryan
Dear Speaker Ryan,
Thank you for the privilege of serving for the past 5 years on the House Ethics Committee. While few, if any, members seek this assignment, the collegiality of the members coupled with the seriousness of the jurisdiction have made it an experience I will treasure.
When I became Chairperson of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform I knew I would not be able to keep all other committee assignments to include Judiciary, Intelligence and Ethics. Four committee assignments, including a Chairmanship, is a challenging workload.
I was happy to finish out the calendar year and conclude some matters then pending before the Committee.
Accordingly, I tender my resignation from the House Ethics Committee pending your designation of a replacement. Thank you again for this opportunity and thank you to my colleagues on the Committee for their hard work and friendship.
Sincerely,
Trey Gowdy, Member of Congress

Flashback: That Time Schumer Said It Was Insane To Shut Down The Government Over Immigration Reform

Flashback: That Time Schumer Said It Was Insane To Shut Down The Government Over Immigration Reform

This week, the government will run out of money on Friday, January
19th
. Once the clock strikes midnight, the government could be shut
down, unless a deal over immigration is hashed out this week. Earlier
thismonth, there was some hope. President Trump met with
congressional leaders from both parties and allowed the cameras to
capture the negotiation process for an extended period of time. There
seemed to be consensus over border security and DACA recipients.
How to move forward on the policy angle remained to be seen. Yes,
there was an ulterior motive with that as well; Trump wanted to dispel
that he was totally insane, which is something that’s being peddled
by liberals lusting to toss him out of office It did that, and then there
was the “s**thole countries” remark. It sent
liberal America into meltdown mode. They blew a gasket, some
stroked out.

Democrats said they would not support another government funding
measure unless a DACA deal is struck, a notable shift from
Democrats inthe past. In 2013, during the debt ceiling negotiations,
Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) called the legislative strategy of tying
immigration reformto budgetary matters—and threatening to shut
down the government in theprocess—as a path that would breed
“governmental chaos.” On Sunday, California Attorney General
Xavier Becerra appeared on Fox News Sundaywith Chris Wallace,
where he did his part trashing Republicans, but added that this
DACA deal should there be one, ought to be a stand-alone piece of
legislation.

I'm a country music fan...When the "Dixie Chicks" first came along, I thought they were GREAT. (still like their music) BUT....You may remember, they were performing in England and Natalie made some derogatory remarks, about George W Bush which pretty much got the group BLACKBALLED ! Singer - Dixie - Chicks - Natalie - Maines

Lead singer of Dixie Chicks Natalie Maines continued her assault on President Donald Trump Saturday when she called him “mentally ill and elderly.”

What The Dixie Chicks Are Doing At Concerts To Bash Donald Trump
Dixie Chicks singer Natalie Maines is going off on country radio stations for what she believes is full support of Donald Trump. Following Trump's claims that President Obama and Hillary Clinton founded ISIS, a statement he said was "sarcastic," the politically outspoken singer tweeted: "I get banned for not liking Bush and now Trump can practically put a hit out on Hillary and he's still all over country radio! Hypocrites! "

Why Readers Upset Over MLK Day Sale Ad Should Settle Down    January 15, 2018 by Tom Knighton
Stores routinely latch onto holidays and tie sales to them. It’s not unusual in the least. After all, holidays are often days when people have the day off and can kind of goof off a bit without too much of a problem, so why not hit a store?

Well, one gun store decided to have a Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday sale and ran an ad. Some are less than pleased with the idea.

“There’s irony and I haven’t seen any other businesses have a sale for Martin Luther King and its so ironic that a gun shop,” said Hanz Herdia.
That irony, as some have pointed out on social media, is because of what Dr. King stood for: non-violence and peaceful protest. Not to mention, the the civil rights leader was assassinated with a gun in Memphis, Tennessee in 1968.
“I do think its in bad taste and i’m sure other people have used historical figures to sell things but it also helps to reflect their morals and it doesn’t in this case,” said Allen Marquez.
Except, well, it seems that Dr. King was a gun owner.

That’s right. You see, while Dr. King advocated for nonviolence when it came to protesting segregation, he wasn’t an idiot. He understood there would be people who would want to see him dead, and he prepared for that.

Cartoon

"Trump the barbarian" Many presidents use foul language, Nixon was notorious, Biden was caught on open mike telling obama "this is a big f**king deal",so Trumps choice of words may have been bad but he unfortunately is 100% right. We don't need 3rd world counties "migrants" coming to the U.S. and latching onto all our freebee programs. We are already 12 trillion $ in debt. We need people who can contribute to our economy, not those that will DRAIN it.

Trump the Barbarian Wayne Allyn Root Posted: Jan 13, 2018

As usual, the media and liberal critics of
Trump have it all wrong.

Before I get to DACA and the wall, I will tackle Trump’s
“offensive words” about Haiti and African nations.
Trump supposedly called those countries by a crude
name. He certainly could have chosen his words more
carefully. But…who cares? He told the raw truth. As
usual, he was right on the money. Trump said exactly
(although crudely) what 63 million American taxpayers
who voted for him were thinking.

Trump summed up the weakness of America- we’re far
too nice. We think about everyone but our own people
and our own taxpayers. Why on earth would we allow
the world’s poor, unskilled, desperate and dependent
masses to come into our country while we’re $20 trillion
in debt? Those days are over. It’s time to be picky and
choosy.

Find the Handcuffs: Trump’s DOJ Issues First Indictment of Uranium One Scandal   By V Saxena January 13, 2018

On Friday, the Justice Department filed an 11-count indictment against a Maryland businessman who bribed Russian officials in order to secure business contracts to transport uranium to the United States from a Russian entity linked to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
The businessman, Mark Lambert, previously served as the “co-president of a Maryland-based transportation company that provides services for the transportation of nuclear materials to customers in the United States and abroad,” according to a DOJ news brief.
The charges against Lambert involve an alleged plot by him and other company executives to bribe Vadim Mikerin, a top official at JSC Techsnabexport, or TENEX, “a subsidiary of Russia’s State Atomic Energy Corporation and the sole supplier and exporter of Russian Federation uranium and uranium enrichment services to nuclear power companies worldwide.”
Apparently, the company’s clients needed uranium, so Lambert and his peers bribed Mikerin in a bid to convince TENEX to conduct business with them.
But I know what you’re wondering: What does this have to do with Clinton? Possibly everything.
As noted by The Daily Wire, “TENEX is the commercial sales arm for Russia’s Rosatom, which took full control of Uranium One in 2013,” thus acquiring control over roughly 20 percent of the United States’ uranium production capacity.
“The sale occurred in stages, beginning in 2009 when Rosatom purchased a minority stake in Uranium One, and continued in 2010, when the Russian agency took ownership of a 51 percent share of the company,” adds Politico. “In 2013, a third transaction gave Rosatom full ownership of Uranium One.”

But the only reason Rosatom was able to get this far is because of Clinton, who “was secretary of state in 2010 when the State Department signed off on Rosatom’s purchase of Uranium One,” as noted by Politico.

That would be perfectly fine, I suppose, if it weren’t the mounds of evidence showing that “(s)everal of Uranium One’s owners were also donors to the Clinton Foundation, giving $145 million to the charitable foundation.”
While Politico further notes no direct evidence exists proving that these donations were meant as quid pro quo payments for Clinton’s approval of the Uranium One deal, conservatives have long believed — in part because of Clinton’s shady history — that they were indeed.
Dovetailing back to Lambert, the DOJ notes that between as early as 2009 and as late as October 2014, he and his peers made “corrupt and fraudulent bribery and kickback payments to offshore bank accounts associated with shell companies, at the direction of, and for the benefit of” Mikerin
The charges against him include one count of conspiracy to violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and commit wire fraud, seven counts of violating the FCPA, two counts of wire fraud and one count of “international promotion money laundering.”
Though conservatives are no doubt thrilled to see this bad man be brought to justice, I suspect many of them are patiently waiting for the day a similar indictment is finally at lost last filed against Hillary Rodham Clinton.
*fingers crossed*
