VA Committee Approves Gun Bills On Party Line Vote

After a chaotic morning at the state capitol in Richmond, and despite huge turnout from thousands of gun owners, Virginia Democrats approved a number of gun control bills in a key committee hearing Monday.

The Senate Judiciary Committee meeting was supposed to begin at 8 a.m., but was delayed more than an hour thanks to the long lines to get in the doors of the capitol. New rules banning the lawful carrying of firearms in the capitol and office buildings led to new security measures, which in turn led to lengthy delays and annoyed staffers and citizens. Meanwhile, some Democrat staffers were apparently able to bypass the required security.

After folks cleared the long security line, they were then told that Democrats were requiring an equal number of supporters and opponents of the gun bills to be seated in the committee room, despite the fact that those opposed to the bills far outnumbered gun control supporters.

Do you wish the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) was more – or less – likely to mail you one of their ominous audit letters?

You know, the kind that lands in your mailbox like the carnival sledgehammer in the “high striker” game. Only, instead of ringing a bell, it sends your blood pressure soaring and has you running for boxes of receipts in the basement – even if you did your taxes honestly and accurately, which we all should.

If not, you must be an editorial writer for the Washington Post, the government newsletter. They railed against Republicans this past Thursday for trimming the IRS’ budget.

“The agency’s audit rate has plummeted,” the Post thundered from its prime spot in the belly of the Swamp. “If you pay your taxes, on time and in good faith, you should be outraged.”

Or relieved, depending on your point of view.

Calling for a bigger IRS budget and more audits, the Post labeled “the GOP effort to hobble the IRS” an “irrational populist spasm that Congress should finally suppress.”

Somehow, the Post was not overly moved when the IRS under President Obama was caught red-handed using its power to kneecap the Tea Party movement in 2009, 2010 and beyond.

Ample documentation emerged of IRS officials repeatedly visiting the White House during this time to, oh, I don’t know, have tea?

                       Gun control has become a hot topic issue in the Commonwealth of Virginia, especially since Gov. Blackface (also known as Ralph Northam) was re-elected last November. He has pushed his anti-gun agenda heavily, especially since Democrats took control of the state's General Assembly.

Since then, Second Amendment-loving Americans have stood up and made their voices heard. Counties have repeatedly declared themselves a sanctuary for the right to keep and bear arms. In fact, one county sheriff said he would deputize citizens should the General Assembly move forward with their proposed gun control laws, like an assault weapons ban, a "high capacity" magazine ban and a prohibition on the import, sales and possession of firearm suppressors.

It turns out that not everyone in Virginia is happy about the uprising that's taking place. Democratic State Sen. Dave Marsden referred to citizens as "little kids" during a public forum over the weekend.

When Marsden was caught making the statement, instead of apologizing and admitting he acted like an idiot, he released a pathetic statement.

"The Second Amendment community is very, very concerned about us approaching the problem as a mental health problem, and this is just indicative of exactly what they're talking about," Marsden said. "There are a lot of people who have mental health issues that are engaged on the current issues, and that's a concern to all of us."

The Democrat followed it up by referring to gun owners as "mentally ill" during a radio interview on WMAL.

           “Today’s a happy day for us,” she said in a grating halt to the solemnity of the moment.

Almost in sing-song, she explained, “We are going to celebrate the wedding of Barbara Lee!”

    It was jarring. Barbara Lee is one of her House lieutenants, but what her wedding had to do with any of the serious and pressing global matters at hand today was anybody’s guess.

    Mrs. Pelosi stammered and stared around, apparently confused about when the wedding was, where the celebration would be or why any of it was relevant in this grave moment. She felt the urge to explain.

    “I convey that to you because it is a source of joy to us, as she is a source of joy.” Silence was the only response from those gathered in the room with pen and pad looking on.

    Apparently feeling that she had not made the case, Mrs. Pelosi quickly added: “And her service to the country. And her personal happiness is lovely.”

Her eyes glimmered and she smiled as if recalling a far-off memory from a place far, far away.

    Third. In. Line. To. The. Presidency. This is a woman who should be carted off to the insane asylum, and not be leading Congress.

    As terrifying as it is to watch Mrs. Pelosi bumble around talking about fantastical niceties during a national crisis, she is even more terrifying when she gets down to business.

    “In any event, here we are,” she continued airily.

“We’ve got the ‘I’s.’ Imp — uh, Iran. Impeachment. Let me start with Iran,” she said as she shuffled notecards on the podium that appeared to confuse her.

She had some urgent legislation she would put on the House floor immediately dealing with Iran — entirely ceremonial legislation since the conflict with Iran appears to have died down after the Mullahs deployed Operation Pound Sand, in which thankfully no Americans were killed or injured.

But urgent nonetheless to her.

    

    Was it to condemn Qassem Soleimani, the terrorist killed last week? Would the legislation celebrate his wonderful death?

Or maybe the Iranian regime? Mrs. Pelosi might offer legislation condemning the hostile and malign activity of the theocratic government of Iran. Or, might it warn them in no uncertain terms against continuing to spread terror and bloodshed around the globe?

    Perhaps, more specifically, Mrs. Pelosi’s legislation would condemn Iran for shooting down a civilian airliner, killing 167 innocent people.

No. None of the above.

    Mrs. Pelosi’s legislation was aimed at Mr. Trump. In all of the gravity and terror of the past week, Mrs. Pelosi’s only urgent response is to constrain the American president against Iran and the terrorists who chant, “Death to America!”

    “The administration conducted a provocative, disproportionate airstrike against Iran, which endangered Americans and did so without informing Congress,” she sniffed. What, precisely, would have been a more proportionate response for a terrorist plotting to kill American troops and diplomats Mrs. Pelosi did not say.

She was off to celebrate the wedding of Barbara Lee.

McCarthy on Pelosi: 'Did She Say That With A Straight Face?'

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is refusing to transmit two articles of impeachment over to the Senate without first seeing from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell what rules will govern the Senate's impeachment trial of President Trump. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was asked by a reporter on Thursday what was so unreasonable about Speaker Pelosi's request.

"Did she say that with a straight face?" quipped Rep. McCarthy.

"You sat through this impeachment," the House minority leader continued. "You watched the Speaker of the House deny any rules going forward in the House. You watched the Speaker of the House change every history we have when it comes to impeachment. We had a history about how we dealt with Clinton and how we dealt with Nixon in a fair process. She changed all that so it could not become fair. She took it out of Judiciary and put it into the Intel Committee ... She denied the own members the ability to ask questions and only for the first 45 minutes that the Chair and someone not even elected to Congress had the power to ask questions. She denied the minority to be able to have witnesses. She denied the accused, the president, to even have legal counsel, and she has the gall to say she wants to determine what happens in the Senate?"

Rep. McCarthy also referenced the recent comments of Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) who called upon Speaker Pelosi to transmit the articles of impeachment if they were indeed serious and urgent. 

"If it’s serious and urgent, send them over," Sen. Feinstein said. "If it isn’t, don’t send it over." 

By refusing to transmit the articles of impeachment to the Senate, Pelosi isn't merely requesting something from Mitch McConnell. She's attempting to extort concessions from Senate Republicans. It was recently reported that Speaker Pelosi got the idea after watching John Dean, architect of the Watergate coverup, float the idea during one of his appearances CNN.
