Boston fire chief resigns, citing bomb criticism
In this Nov. 16, 2011 photo, Boston Fire Chief Steve Abraira
poses for a photo at a fire station in Boston. In a letter dated Monday, June 3,
2013, Abraira said he is resigning effecting on Friday, saying public criticism
from his deputies for the way he responded to the marathon bombings has made it
impossible for him to do his job. Thirteen deputies had complained in a letter
to Mayor Tom Menino that Abraira's failure to take command of the Boston
Marathon bombing scene was indefensible and part of a pattern of shirking
leadership. (AP Photo/Boston Herald, Mark Garfinkel)
