The Huffington Post was in on it too, but they were too lazy to write their own article and just linked to the Slate one.
So just what exactly is this proof that has the liberals so convinced of white racism? Well, a new study from Stanford University called Racial Disparities in Incarceration Increase Acceptance of Punitive Policies which alleges that white people inherently view blacks as criminals.
The methodology used to draw this conclusion is a bit confusing, but from what I could gather, researchers showed a bunch of white people mugs shots of criminals; some white some black. One group of white people was shown more black mug shots than the other. The group of white people that saw more black mug shots were more likely to support stiffer punishment for criminals than the ones that saw less black mug shots.
Do you get it? They are saying that when shown pictures of black mug shots, white people’s racism kicks in and makes them think all blacks are criminals and thus makes them want more law and order.
The actual conclusion of the study:
What this “humungous” study of 62 white people fails to take into account is the idea that the criminal justice system isn’t racist. The missive is, there are a disproportionate amount of blacks in prison, and so the system is racist. The study doesn’t consider that blacks may commit crimes at a higher rate or that the criminal class comes from the poor and many blacks live below the poverty line.
It’s never that. It’s always racist white people in charge of a racist system, right?
What I got out of this experiment was that when white people were shown pictures of actual black criminals they somehow got the fool notion that some blacks actually are criminals. Perish the thought.
You can spin this racial injustice thing anyway you want, but it all comes down to this: Police have more patrols and make more arrests in high-crime areas. These high-crime areas tend to be low-income minority neighborhoods and so the races of the arrested tend to reflect that of the community.
I’m not even sure what it is the liberals and the black community want done. Do they want the police to stop arresting blacks for committing crimes? If that’s the case they should know that if they aren’t behind bars, these criminals will continue to prey on the black areas they live in. Or maybe they just want police to arrest more white people to even things out. Perhaps what they really want is just something to bitch about.

We found that exposing people to extreme racial disparities in the prison population heightened their fear of crime and increased acceptance of the very policies that
lead to those disparities. Thus, institutionalized disparities can be self-perpetuating.
