AUSTIN (KXAN) — State Rep. Eric Johnson, D-Dallas, confirmed the removal of the "Children of the Confederacy Creed" plaque Sunday. ( looks really proud of himself...doesn't he ? }
In a release, his office wrote that the plaque was removed from the wall where it hung inside of the Texas Capitol for 60 years.
Calls for the plaque's removal began over a year ago and were first voiced by Rep. Johnson.
The Texas State Preservation Board voted Friday to remove the plaque. Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and the newly-elected Speaker of the House, Dennis Bonnen are members of the preservation board.
It is unknown if/where the plaque will be relocated.
