Mexico’s President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador blamed Biden’s immigration policies as the cause of the current border crisis during a press conference on TuesdayMexico President blames Biden for current border crisis
“Expectations were created that with the Government of President Biden there would be better treatment of migrants,” said Obrador. “And this has caused Central American migrants, and also from our country, wanting to cross the border thinking that it is easier to do so.”
Biden sent a group to the region in an attempt to address the current crisis, during which Mexico’s Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said that there needs to be “humanitarian actions” that would promote economic development designed to address the reasons people leave Central America for the US.
The Biden administration has blamed Trump for the crisis at the border. While blaming Trump, the current administration has rolled back his policies designed to curb back illegal immigration, such as stopping the border wall construction, placing a 100-day moratorium on deportations, and ending a “Remain in Mexico” policy.
“There was a system in place in both Republican and Democratic administrations, that was torn down during the Trump administration, and that is why the challenge is more acute than it ever has been before,” said Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
“We are rebuilding the orderly systems that the Trump administration tore down to avoid the need for these children to actually take the perilous journey,” continued Mayorkas
