Half of the U.S. House has co-sponsored National Concealed Carry Reciprocity.
So why hasn’t there been a vote on it?
A D.C. insider reveals that Speaker Paul Ryan, hoping to placate the anti-gun media, demanded Republicans agree to pass anti-gun laws in exchange for passing National Concealed Carry Reciprocity. After the June 14, 2017, Alexandria attack. Ryan told Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) that “he didn’t think the time was right” for legislation revolving around reciprocity.
It’s apparently because of H.R. 2909, the D.C. Personal Protection Reciprocity Act. Seems Ryan only wants security-protected people like him to have guns – oh, and the criminals! He’s conveniently ignoring the fact that Rep. Scales would have stood a chance if he had been allowed to carry in D.C. where he was headed after his baseball practice in Virginia, which allows concealed carry.
If it’s true that Ryan is blocking this vote: that’s betrayal.
If you want to stop violence, pass National Concealed Carry Reciprocity. States that adopted concealed carry have seen their crime rates drop faster than states that didn’t.If National Concealed Carry Reciprocity, it could likely pass the Senate even with Democrats holding enough seats to filibuster. Many of those Democrats are in pro-gun “red” states, and Democrat leaders are willing to cave on this one issue if it means helping keep the seat in Democrat hands.
Our friends at American Liberty PAC are leading the charge for National Concealed Carry Reciprocity.
