Police Officer To Citizens: Get Yourself Some Firearms Because You’re Going To Have To Protect Yourself
John Rivera, president of the Miami-Dade Police Benevolent Association, spoke against the budget cuts, saying that they would negatively affect the safety of residents around the entire county.
Police units that specialize in domestic cases such as child abuse could see their entire departments vanish according to reports from local news. One proposed compromise in order to keep police officers on the streets is that the Miami-Dade Police Benevolent Association agree to substantial cuts in healthcare benefits.
Other services that the county is considering cutting includes employment the public library, maintenance and mowing services around the county, increasing time for emergency repairs and postponement of classes for new police officers.
The mayor has ruled out new taxes to pay for the budget deficit.
