A Missouri jury has recommended a “lighter” sentence for a convicted murderer who killed two people during a robbery in 2009.
Eria Doss, now 23, was sentenced to four life sentences plus 200 years in 2011 after he killed Andrew Eli and Justin Burdreau while robbing Eli’s apartment in 2009.
Last year, a Missouri appeals court ordered that he be resentenced because the jury at his original trial heard “improper” evidence about his juvenile records, KMBC reports.
On Wednesday, the jury recommended 30 years in prison for each of his two convictions of second-degree murder, 10 years for the first-degree robbery conviction, and three years for three counts of armed criminal action.
Doss will receive his new sentence on September 26.
This was technically Doss’ third trial.
In 2010, Doss’ first trial ended in a hung jury.
In 2011, a jury found him guilty on all counts.
According to reports, both Eli and Budreau were shot in the back of the head “execution-style.”
Doss was arrested two days later.
Doss told police that he, along with Larry Marshall and Michael Gunn, who are both serving their own sentences, went to Eli’s apartment because the “white boys” had “good weed” and wouldn’t be armed.
Gunn was convicted of two counts of second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and first-degree robbery. He was sentenced to 50 years in prison.
Marshall pleaded guilty to robbing the home but said he didn’t know the other two men would kill Eli and Budreau. He was sentenced to 16 years in prison.
