John Oliver Calls Out The Academy's Hypocrisy
"Last Week Tonight" host John Oliver was the first late-night host to address the sexual harassment and assault accusations against Harvey Weinstein last week, and Oliver took aim at the scandal again a week later. This time, he called out The Academy of Motion Pictures, which removed Weinstein from its ranks over the weekend. Oliver said, “Yes, finally the group that counts among its current members Roman Polanski, Bill Cosby, and Mel Gibson had found the one guy who treated women badly and kicked him out. So, congratulations, Hollywood. See you at the next Oscars where – and this is true – Casey Affleck will be presenting Best Actress.”
Casey Affleck, who won the Oscar for best actor for "Manchester by the Sea" in 2017, has been accused of sexual harassment by two former co-workers.
