 A newspaper in Pennsylvania was forced to apologize to readers – and the President, I suppose – for publishing a letter calling for Obama’s execution.

    The Daily Item of Sunbury  published a letter on Memorial Day, no less, that called for the death of President Obama by “guillotine, firing squad” or “public hanging.”
    The author was listed as “W. Richard Stover” of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. It’s a diatribe against the President’s leadership, calling him the “lead-from-behind coward-in-chief,” and blames him for the rise of ISIS in the Middle East. He then calls for a violent insurrection:
  
  To the families of those fallen heroes whose blood lies on the sands of Iraq; don’t you think it might be time to rise up against an administration who has adequately demonstrated their gross incompetence?
   I think the appropriate, and politically correct, term is regime change. Forgive me for being blunt, but throughout history this has previously been accompanied by execution by guillotine, firing squad, public hanging.
   I have absolutely no reason to expect that current practice should be any different. The end result is elimination of the problem, the method is superfluous. When society dictates, the end always justifies the means, otherwise the action would not be taken.

  In an editorial three days later, the paper apologized for letting the paper slip into their pages.
  There is no excuse for the letter The Daily Item published on Memorial Day. We did something we shouldn’t have and the readers who called us on it deserve accountability,” they write. “Our readers and critics have reacted in force, as they should have. We accept their judgment and embrace the calls for heightened awareness and a higher standard for civil discourse.
   The Daily Item apologizes for our failure to catch and remove the inappropriate paragraphs in the letter directed at President Obama. We will strive to do better in the future.”

Lawyers defending the police accused in the Freddie Gray case have asked that their clients’ trials be moved outside of Baltimore so that the accused officers can have at least some chance of a fair trial.
In a just-filed petition to the court, they also once again asked Baltimore District attorney Marilyn Mosby to recuse herself from the trial citing her extreme anti-cop bias that she has displayed.
The defense petition comes at the same time a new video has come to light showing Mosby preaching in a black Baltimore church while the investigation into Freddie Gray’s death had not even been concluded.
First, Mosby tells those gathered that the criminal justice system had “historically and disproportionately” affected communities of color.
Then, speaking of the riots, she said that the images seen in the news were due to that “frustration.”
Mosby then promised, “So we will pursue justice by any and all means necessary.”
According to legal analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano, those remarks alone should raise serious questions if Mosby can fairly try the case against the accused officers no matter where the case is ultimately tried.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A Native American student who sued his California school district because it's refusing to let him wear an eagle feather to his high school graduation will ask a judge for an order permitting the sacred item.

Christian Titman's lawyers are expected to argue in court Tuesday that the student's rights to freedom of expression and religion in the state constitution are being violated.

Titman, 18, a member of the Pit River Tribe, said he wants to attach the 5-inch feather he received from his father to the tassel on his cap at the Clovis High School ceremony set for Thursday. Clovis is about 10 miles northeast of Fresno.

He wants. to mark his achievement and honor his Native American heritage, according to the lawsuit filed in state court Monday. The tribe considers eagle feathers sacred and symbolic of a significant accomplishmentSTORY

In life, we’re told to applaud the creative. Even if what they create turns out to be useless, a pat on the back is a prerequisite for thinking outside of the box. Except in the case of the jet-powered Mini Cooper. That’s just plain stupid. 

At Snetterton raceway in Norfolk, England, on what looks to be a delightfully British summer’s day, the man with the jet strapped to the back of his Mini lines up for his glorious demonstration run. As he approaches the first turn, gaining speed magnificently, he promptly, and rather predictably, slides wide, into — and then through — the steel barriers. 

“Who thought that was a good idea,” says the bemused British chap watching on. “Didn’t I say there wasn’t enough road?” There is never enough road when your small hatchback boasts a six-foot-long jet engine protruding out of the trunk. It is, then, impossible to give the driver a slap on the back and say, “good on ya for trying.” The more pertinent question would probably be, “what the hell were you thinking?”

Undercover agents were able to sneak fake explosives and banned weapons through Transportation Security Administration checkpoints, in an investigation that revealed a massive, system-wide security failure at America's airports. 
The findings were part of a DHS inspector general probe. The report is still classified, but Fox News has confirmed the investigation found security failures at dozens of airports. 
Homeland Security officials confirmed to Fox News that TSA screeners failed 67 out of 70 tests -- or 96 percent -- carried out by special investigators known as "red teams." 
In one case, an undercover agent with a fake bomb strapped to his back set off a magnetometer -- but the screener still failed to find it.

 In a 53-46 vote, the Senate narrowly passed a measure that will stop the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty. The Statement of Purpose from the Senate Bill reads: "To uphold Second Amendment rights and prevent the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty." The U.N. Small Arms Treaty, which has been championed by the Obama Administration, would have effectively placed a global ban on the import and export of small firearms. The ban would have affected all private gun owners in the U.S. and had language that would have implemented an   international gun registry, now get this, on all private guns and ammo.

Farm Animal Friday: Shelby Twp. cops pick up big pig    Posted: May 31, 2015

   Fridays are for farm animals. For the second week in a row, a police department in metro Detroit has rounded up a farm animal - this time it's a big pig!

   The pig, named Pig, had somehow gotten loose and was on the run. 

   The Shelby Township Police Department got the call Thursday to a report of a pig running loose near 24 Mile and Wolf Drive (sweet irony!). The responding officers arrived, wrangled Pig and eventually got him into the cop car!

   That was apparently the easy part. He left a huge mess in the backseat of the cruiser, because, you know, he's a pig! That's what the do! You'd probably be this happy looking too if you left that mess for someone else to clean up!

   The good news is that the owner of the pig picked it up from the station and even cleaned out the police car.

   The calls started coming into central dispatch at about 7 p.m. Thursday. A pig had escaped from her pen on 24 Mile Road.

   The humor was not lost on Deputy Chief Mark Coil.

   "I've heard them all," he said. "Pigs and pigs, pigs capturing bacon, what's for dinner.

"Shelby Township has that 'Ark-feel' - we seem to have animals at large of all types and varieties."

   A dog pole was used to direct the pig into the police car where it made a mess.

   "It became a biohazard relatively quickly," Coil said. "Luckily for the department and the officers the owner volunteered and cleaned the car for us."

   "I just want to say thanks to the Shelby Township police for getting the pig and not writing me a ticket for having poop in the car," said owner Brian Davis.

   Davis said he plans on bringing coffee and doughnuts to the officers who helped return his prized pet.

Just last week, the Oakland County Animal Control picked up a goat left tied to a fence near 13 Mile and Orchard Lake.

Harvard: “Black-On-Black Violence” Is Inappropriate Language, The Reason Is Remarkable

A new report issued by Harvard Kennedy School’s Executive Session on Policing and Public Safety says that the term black-on-black violence is “a simplistic and emotionally-charged definition of urban violence that can be problematic when used by political commentators, politicians, and police executives.”
What’s amusing is that they preface this statement with the following gem:

Research has long documented that most violence occurs within racial groups and that black Americans — often victimized by black offenders — experience disproportionately high levels of violent crime.

The researchers also argue that black-on-black violence is an ill-suited term because it promotes “inappropriate policing activities in black neighborhoods, which in turn erode the community’s trust and confidence in the police and inhibit co-operation with them.”
Furthermore, “[b]ecause the police represent the most visible face of government and have primary responsibility for maintaining public safety in all neighborhoods, [researchers] contend that police executives in particular should avoid framing urban violence problems in this way.”
    So everybody in the world should stop describing black-on-black violence as black-on-black violence because it offends black people — and because it promotes “inappropriate policing activities,” i.e., racial profiling.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but so what? Black-on-black violence exists and is a huge problem in this country, so maybe instead of trying to protect people’s feelings, we all ought to be a whole lot more upfront and honest about it

Secretary of State John Kerry Breaks Leg in Bike Accident

Secretary of State John Kerry broke his leg in a bike accident in France, the State Department said today.

"Given the injury is near the site of his prior hip surgery, he will return to Boston today to seek treatment at Massachusetts General Hospital with his doctor who did the prior surgery," a State Department spokesman said in a statement.

Kerry is stable and never lost consciousness. He is expected to make a full recovery.

He was originally expected to fly back to the United States today, but State Department spokesman John Kirby said that after further consultation it was decided it was "sensible" for Kerry to remain in the hospital for observation overnight, for purely precautionary measures, and then to fly to Boston on Monday.

The State Department says the incident happened this morning while Kerry was bicycling near Scionzier, France. Paramedics and a physician were on the scene with the secretary's motorcade at the time of the accident.

Kerry was transported via medical helicopter to the University Hospital of Geneva.

"Secretary Kerry is in good spirits and is grateful to the French and Swiss authorities, doctors, and nurses who assisted him after the accident," the department spokesman said.

The 71-year-old is an avid cyclist, spotted regularly during breaks in the intense Iran nuclear negotiations biking around Lake Geneva

He had been scheduled to travel to Spain today to meet with King Felipe VI, President Rajoy, and Foreign Minister Garcia-Margallo to discuss a range of bilateral and global issues, followed by a Tuesday trip to Paris, to lead the U.S. delegation to the Counter-ISIL Coalition Small Group Ministerial.

"The Secretary very much regrets not being able to visit Spain to meet with one of our close allies for discussions on a range of issues, as well as being unable to attend the counter-ISIL coalition ministerial meeting on Tuesday in Paris in person. The Secretary plans to participate in the counter-ISIL coalition meeting remotely," the State Department spokesman said.

Homicide Count for May in Baltimore Rises to 43     BALTIMORE — May 31, 2015, 7:00 PM ET

Three fatal shootings in Baltimore on Sunday bring May's homicide count to 43, making it the most violent month in more than 40 years.

Police say two men were fatally shot in the head about 1 a.m. About 11 a.m., a man was fatally shot in the back.

With 43 homicides, May is the deadliest month since the early 1970s, when 44 people were killed in December 1971 and 45 people in August 1972, according to the Baltimore Sun.

There have been 116 homicides in Baltimore in 2015. By this time last year, homicides hadn't hit triple digits. As homicides rose in May, the number of arrests plummeted. Some attribute the drop to increased scrutiny of police following the April death of Freddie Gray from injuries received in police custody.
